Guest WinterWonderland Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 I have read about poweramp for the music but I believe that is a paid app. AVI playback I dont know if it is possible, can convert to MP4 and play that way Ebook reader I have found none but I would like one that can make the screen look like a proper ebook reader. MSoffice i would be intrested if anyone knows of any like this
Guest GraviticVortex Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 It is really a matter of taste. As for PowerAMP, in my opinion it is worth the money, it just doesnt have competition now. For free alternatives Winamp and DoubleTwist are good enough, but both lack EQ/tone control and Flac support which i need and which PowerAmp has. As for Ebook reader, there are many, my favourite and proSPAMly most popular is Aldiko, but there are other usual ones like Kindle and others. It really depends on which format your books are in. Office app - the usual: Thinkfree Office, Documents to Go, and Quickoffice. I am not sure how/if they support document creation and editing though. Most office apps are also paid.

Guest 5kops Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 MixZing Media Player has equaliser settings, not good as Poweramp's, but its free. RockPlayer Lite plays AVI, again free. FBReader is good for EPUB, it takes far less space than Aldiko. Most office editing apps are paid, view only are free. The only free app ( I could find ) that lets you edit is Olive Office Editor, but its not so good.
Guest WinterWonderland Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 Great selections. I went for Winamp and documents to go. Will grab rockplayer and Aldiko/fbReader now. Might buy poweramp now also actually. Thanks
Guest WinterWonderland Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 RockPlayer Lite plays AVI, again free. Wont play anything lol, in either hardware or software modes

Guest SqueakyG Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 I'm looking for the best document readers you get for free. I have no need to edit documents from my phone but would like to read PDF, doc, txt, etc. I tried a few free PDF reader and they all suck. The official Adobe Reader was the worst because it kept crashing. The best I found was in the Documents To Go that Orange installed with the phone! Docs To Go isn't acceptable for Word docs though: I tried pinch zooming and it said you could only zoom in the paid version! I've heard of tight trial versions, but that's a bit much. Text files open in the awful "Notepad" app, but I tried a few rubbish free apps and eventually settled on Endless Reader. It's acceptable. As for video playback, I haven't thought about it. The San Francisco's battery is awful enough without trying to watch a video on it. I'd like some juice left to take a phonecall now and again
