Hello all, bought a HTC desire off ebay, the previous owner has the "latest MoDaCo rom installed with apps2sd+"

I think I want to just COMPLETELY wipe the phone to its factory settings and then start completely over so I know how to properly root and install Modaco and apps2sd.

I am a complete noob when it comes to all this and would very very much appreciate someone giving me detailed instructions on how to do all that or give me a link.

I used to have a iPhone 3gs which I jailbroke so I have some experience with that type of thing however I have no clue if its similar to Android.

Cheers guys!

Don't bother unrooting it if you've bought it from ebay unless you know if it's been branded and what rom was originally on it because you'll have to find the correct RUU and root it again. It's just less hassle if it's already rooted.

Just download a custom rom, put it on your SD card, start the phone with Volume down + power button. Go into recovery and select wipe phone and data and then install a new rom from zip file and select custom zip. That's all there is to it.

You'll need a second EXT3 partition for a2sd before you flash a rom and that's it.

You can find all the basic answers here on this forum or if you google for them. And ask for the rest.

Enjoy your new phone.

Perhaps the OP wants to run it stock? You never know...

The second sentence said: "I want to just COMPLETELY wipe the phone to its factory settings and then start completely over so I know how to properly root and install Modaco and apps2sd."

So I guess that he just wants to play with the phone.

Ok well I'll have a look more into these suggestions then. Thanks.

Which, to me, would suggest wanting to go back to stock to do the rooting process themselves and learn what needs to be done

Need to know the original ROM version to get the right RUU, though

That's true but as I've said. Buying the rooted phone from ebay leaves you with guessing which ruu is the correct one. And seeing that it's already rooted it's pointless to risk bricking the phone if it's been debranded. It's best leaving at that and just flashing a desired rom and restoring it for warranty purposes.

I think that we both have a point so I'll just leave it at that.
