was really excited about getting this phone, as soon as i did i was downloading ups and enjoying nearly everything about it.

that week i was late for work a few times cause the alarm failed to go off, a few days later the phone wouldnt charge unless it was placed in a particular position and i could see 2 dead pixels.

i ordered a replacement which i got the next day on a sunday .

as soon as i turned the phone i could tell by thr beautifull colours that this time id got an omled phone. once again very excited i straight away unlocked it and put my tmobile sim in the phone only to not get any singal whatsoever, changed all the settings tried the orange sim card also went to the orange store, called orange customer services and no one could sort out the fault so after a week of not having a phone to use ive asked for a refund

I had read there was little difference but to me the difference is clear. Oled colours are nice and rich. The tft was good but id go for oled any day plus less chance of dead pixels

Anyway I'm sad I've got to let the phone go. I will wait a few months for the next best thing in the same price range

I might have to say good bye to SF as well.

The touchscreen is becoming very unresponsive at times, which even prevents me from answering an incoming phonecall...

Sigh :-(

this could just possibly have something to do with it being a cheap phone????

You guys give up easily.

Just return it and get another. You will find one with no problems eventually.

Yep agree with this totally

I bought two of these phones at the same time for me and the gf and never had a problem at all, there seem to be good and bad batches!

As soon as I put too much load on the phone, the touch screen becomes unresponsive.

Eg: when someone is calling me, or when quickly navigating.

Will overclocking the phone help? Or just make it worse?

Will replacing the phone help?

I would need to ship it to the UK, so that's why I'm reluctant on doing it.

i did wonder whether the touchscreen problems could be heat related...

I had alarm clock issues, turns out a task killer was killing the clock.

Soon as I excluded clock from list its been fine for me.

My first handset was a TFT, from Argos - wouldn't pick up any signal at all. Orange sent me out a replacement, with an OLED screen. This one's back doesn't fit though, so they've posted me one of those too!

Didn't buy from Orange directly, but they're sorting the problems for me, so I will be a very happy bunny eventually.

I think if you can deal with spending hours on the phone to customer services then you should stick it out. In the end this little device will be well worth the trouble. Just a shame that we have the issues to begin with.

2 phones I bought have had zero technical defects so far.

My only issue was a creaky lower right case, I easily resolved that when I accidentally dropped it onto a pavement - fits perfect now!!

I bought mine from an Orange shop in October and everything works great. The only problem I have is dust under the screen but I don't want to return it for that because I'm happy with the phone apart from that!

Also, I bought my son one for Christmas and his seems to be working well so far, so it is possible to get a good one and when you do, it's absolutely amazing for the price.

I also have them from time to time, to me it's the processor (system is loaded). It happens when I restart the phone, I need to leave it like 20 seconds or so for all services to start, etc, and the load to go down.

Also when I trash it - like install 20 apps, run some of them, uninstall, etc. Then go to home screen (with a bg image with some water droplets), I noticed sometimes a few seconds of lag to respond to my touch. Going to System Monitor and doing an 'End All' (few apps are excepted), makes it snappy again.

Well, it's a 600mhz proc, and it shows. Still, I'm happy with it.

PS: Do you know any app that shows your CPU load in the notification bar at all times, so I could actually check these ? Perhaps I should make one ...

I also removed Widgetsoid widget, to check if it's not that one ... I wasn't using it too much. Yesterday I used it with the QuickReboot option, and my SD card became damaged, I had no choice but to re-format it.

Will keep you posted how it goes without Widgetsoid, if it is better.

I wrote this in the problem free Sanfran thread, but here you go:

I have purchased a total of 10 :) SanFrans untill now and luckily untill now none of them had problems. The first three for me, my wife and my best friend in November, grey OLEDs, ran BladeVillain 1.0.1 and then Sebastian404's Froyo with all the fixes and new kernel applied. People were so amazed that I had to buy another 3 white ones (my syster, my wife AGAIN - loves white, does not care about OLED - and a good buddy) and 4 LCD grey ones (uncle and nephew from best friend, my sister's friend and my godfather's son  ). They are running Flibblesan's Froyo RLS6 fixed by Danz0l. In 2-3 months I will have to purchase 2-3 more :)

We just say that the SanFran is cheap and this is the reason why it has problems. Just take a look at the DesireHD with it's miserable speaker and battery or at the Samsung Galaxy S with the lag and GPS problems. They cost 3-4 times more but are still far away from perfect.

after reading some of the responses I'm now having second thoughts about sending it back. And I still haven't recieved the prepaid envelope to density back in.

Maybe theres going to be a phone just as good in 3/4 months time

Out of interest have you tried registering the sim that came with the phone. T-mobile and Three (my operator) share networks with orange and orange Bar the phone from there network until the sim it is tied to is registered. I had 3 days on three where I was fine until it would drop to a 2g signal area where it would then not recieve calls, texts or internet until the phone was rebooted. Registering the sim fixed this straight away.

yea i was made to register the sim before they could give me any assistance over the phone.

getting really upsetting now as it seams they are okay to send a replacement but very slow to issue a refund.

I had 2 OLED SFs. My son's went back twice (so he has TFT now  ). The first one usually (but not always) failed to auto-rotate and the screen died on the second one after about 2 days. I'll just keep taking it back if there's a problem. Delivery is next day (though has not been that good IME), so it's not the end of the world.

Mine has been flawless (touch wood). Great device. I will never pay HTC prices again.

Have you had smartphones with physical keyboards? I was a fan untill I had some (Eten M800 and SE Xperia X1) but found myself never using it (too time consuming and too much effort to open, always rotating the phone, hating the hardware friction between the two parts, etc.). The only physical keyboard I found myself using was on the palm pre because it's a portrait slider.
