Guest Touch Graphite Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 I maybe one of the very few still running R5 but I'm desperate to get my hands on slave mode. I've read of a disturbing number if people having problems after adding R6 so the question is: What's the best way to add this slave mode in: apk or the add on way!? Cheers.

I think you meant to say you want the HOST mode as by default the Vega is in Slave mode when connected by USB to a PC. I updated to v1.06 and PP r4 using the Kitchen as usual a while back but I haven't had any major problems (touch wood). As part of the latest bake you will get the ability to switch between Host & Slave modes on the USB and if you checkout the threads (see edit below) there is now a tool to change the USB switch icon so that it is easier to see which mode you happen to be in. Update:- Link to Simonta's USB switcher tool here Edited January 23, 2011 by trevor432990
Guest zzleezz Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 I've been running r6 and pp almost from day one with very few issues. Would be interested to hear what problems you have heard r6 has.
Guest warriorscot Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 People have problems with every new release its perfectly fine for the majority, just backup your vega with the built in tool and give it a go at worst you just reflash it and try again with a clean state.
Guest Touch Graphite Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 (edited) Cheers for the replies. I indeed got a bit confused which one was which but I'm glad you worked out what I was on about. I already knew that I could obtain it but keeping an eye on the threads, it seems as if more people than usual are getting problems putting their device into host mode. There's a thread which explains this problem. http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v...ing-im-missing/ I'll get cooking then! Edited January 23, 2011 by Touch Graphite
Guest warriorscot Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 Lots of people don't have a problem and its an easy enough fix, there are other things in r6 worth having. I don't think there is anyone who just plain out can't get it to work on the r6 at all there is usually a fix. If you do a clean flash it is pretty much guaranteed to work for most people its probably conflicts with pre-existing software or previous fixes to enable USB. To be honest I think I have used USB host once to check it worked I really don't use it since I can transfer directly over wireless its a little redundant most of the time. In fact I hardly ever use USB drives at all with the miriad of file hosting sites or just direct connecting with my dyndns address.
Guest Touch Graphite Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 I quickly cooked a r6 ROM before it got updated. Hold on to your butts, here goes nothing.......
Guest Touch Graphite Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 (edited) OK now Im starting to worry...... I tried to apply an r6 update to a fully working machine. Ran install-windows.bat, remounted system partition then packaged up the froyo flashplayer.apk file then just sat there for 5 minutes+ Then reported '-waiting for device-' I got a bit impatient, pulled the USB lead as the CMD window froze, the device still worked but VERY sluggish. Done a power cycle then everything fine. Decided to run a android backup, to which it auto restarted to a black screen, and thats where im now at. I can turn it off and on, but just to a black screen. I cant get it back to recovery mode via the back and power buttons, tried around 10 times now. Any help! PLEASE!? It will go into recovery. Try running through the cycle with the power removed, then press power for at least 6 seconds to make sure it's off, then try again. There is no other option but eventually, it WILL go into recovery. There are many other threads with things to try but patience is the answer. The Vega is pretty much brick proof and you are not bricked...
Guest Touch Graphite Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 Man that was scary. Top advice there simon! (supposing thats your name) I suppose every attempt you try and no action results in you getting even more frayed! Installed 1.06.5 and now the new r6 is on! Now restoring from titanium. Cheers for your help. I now have a 6 inch warm mars bar i need to dispose of thats currently sat in my pants.
Guest simonta Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 (edited) Been there, didn't like it, but finally learned to relax and trust the Vega! Try to get a rythm for it if you're going to flash a lot. I do mine like a waltz with my fingers. 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2-3 release. Works everytime for me. Trick is to relax and drink beer. Beer always helps. Glad it's sorted for you... Edited January 26, 2011 by simonta
Guest tjz1100 Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 Well, I've tried everything I've read on here and still can't get USB switching to work. I'm surely not doing something blatantly, stupidly stupid!!!! Hit the USB switch icon and it just sits there "your device will reboot shortly, please wait". I've used the the r6 mod and I've installed the individual fix. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Same here - mine worked fine on 1.04 and r4 with the app loaded separately but as soon as I upgraded to 1.06.5 and then r6 it's not worked since. My mate in the office had 1.06.5 installed from new (so we added the r6 from here) and we've never got the switcher app to work on that? I was just going to wait until the next release and hope it's fixed as quite a few people seem to be having the same problem. Edited January 27, 2011 by worto03
