Guest Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 Relative newbie here! Am running R5 and everything seemed fine until a couple of days ago when (from stand by) my Vega touch screen just stopped responding. If I press the stand-by/power button, the screen comes alive but I can't unlock using the touch screen as it just won't respond to any touch. Interestingly, if I hold the menu button down for a few seconds (after waking it up using the standby/power button), it unlocks the Vega and I see the home screen. Still doesn't respond to touch so I can't do anything with it. Its currently on 31% battery so I'm trying to run it down so that it does a full power off and recharge it and see if it works? Any other ideas? Any ideas and what I can do to solve this? Although I have Titanium installed, I of course, was planning to make a backup but didn't get around to actually doing it so am looking to avoid re-applying the latest stock and re-applying Paul's patch etc. Thanks
Guest trevor432990 Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 Can you confirm that you have tried a hard reboot yet? i.e. Hold power button for longer than 8 seconds and release then press again for two seconds then you should see the backlight come on and about 8 seconds later the message 'Booting' should appear.

That did the trick though I'm sure doing the hard reboot as you suggested would have done it too. Seems to be working fine now. Many thanks Rishi

It is not registering any touches it seems. Any fixes available? This had to happen at the worst possible time while i was revising for an Operating System exam. :-(
Guest jonn sz Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 had the same thing happen this morning to mine, then just suddenly started working again.
Guest kishhh Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 had the same thing happen this morning to mine, then just suddenly started working again. Yeah same here, but now im experiencing even more frustrating symptoms. Since the screen has become unstable. It works sometimes but then it stop responding soon after. Sometimes half the screen works but the other half doesnt or theres deadspot randomly around the screen. Ive had the tablet since early december and its been working perfectly untill yesterday. Could it be a hardware fault?

It may be worth trying a reflash of the device with 1.08 from http://www.myadventvega.co.uk

Guest Thresherinc Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 I assume non of Pauls extras are compatible with the update yet? r6 without performance Pack apparently works well.
Guest kishhh Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 r6 without performance Pack apparently works well. Ah, i'll try that out that. Hope it fixes the screen problems. It was fine untiill yesterday! Is there way of installing the update from linux yet? The last update had to be done through Windows which was a pain.
Guest trevor432990 Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 (edited) To Kishh and everyone experiencing sluggish performance on startup there is a known issue with the Vega on this front see previous thread and I'm sure we've all experienced it when restarting after timeout. Probably part of the reason the battery level indicator takes a while to refresh to the real value. Anyway, the impact should only be temporary say 3 mins tops but rest assured the right people have noted this shortcoming and no doubt will be working to improve matters before long  Edited January 25, 2011 by trevor432990

Its some sort of problem with the screen. It either doesn't respond to any touches or only some areas of the screen respond to touch but other areas don't. E.G on the homescreen, if i swipe on the home screen nothing willl happen but if i swip an inch down, then it will move on to the next screen. I'm just about to update to 1.08 to see if that fixes my problem
Guest kishhh Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 I just updated to 1.08 and straight on first boot i wasn't even able to select the language or read the EULA. The screen seems to be responding whenever it feels like
Guest labaude Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 I just updated to 1.08 and straight on first boot i wasn't even able to select the language or read the EULA. The screen seems to be responding whenever it feels like I have the same issue, I installed the 1.08, on top of it the R6 and R7pre7 to test it. The vega was very fast and after the test i decided to do a recovery to install the latest clean R7. I should not have done it. It's now a disaster. Performance are good and suddenly, the touch screen is not responding. It's not about the system whom respond very quickly on the button press. Where is that coming from and is there a fix ?
