Guest albal Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 Hi, Sorry if this is a known topic but I have setup a brand new Orange San Francisco for my wife and unlocked it. She is on the Three network. It was working fine since Thursday but today she phoned me from a landline quite upset that it's now not working - signal strength icon has the cross on it, no network. Apparently she was in town when it stopped working so the guy in the Phones4U shop said 3 ban non 3 handsets from their network. On speaking to three customer services this afternoon they say this is not the case but the SIM may not be compatible with the phone. His explanation said that the problem may not occur right away but could take months or even years to occur. As a systems engineer I find that hard to believe that there is some random code onboard to ban non 3 handsets from 3 network. Sounds like covering the process that they do ban them, but if that was the case in my search of this forum and others I think I would have unearthed it. Please help as I have a wife who will be wanting her Nokia back more every minute that passes ! Cheers, Al
Guest grentuu Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 (edited) I know this may sound obvious but do you have another 3 sim you can try? Also it would seem odd for Three to do this, after all it is an income stream for them. you could always unlock the phone and use another sim, then perhaps try porting the number over? Guest grentuu Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 Found this. It is very old but shows that they used to do this !! http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=90598 Something to do with roaming charges if you weren't locked to them.

As other have already pointed out try another 3 sim if you can. I'll keep you updated to see if this is wide spread.
Guest lilzad Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 hi i put my m8s sim card who is on three in my zte blade which is unlocked and seems fine have u tried pussing another network sim card into the phone?? maybe the phone is faulty? or try inserting another 3 sim card
Guest deadphill Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 Three only ban the sim eventually if you are using a 2g handset. The blade is a 3g handset and therefore will not be banned. Just make sure use 3g networks is enabled. I would also try another sim. If all this fails perhaps walk into a 3 shop or (sorry to suggest this) phone 3 customer service? (again sorry!) Cheers Phill
Guest Lew247 Posted February 10, 2011 Report Posted February 10, 2011 Simply ask them for a new sim card and to transfer the number to the new card

Guest psidoc Posted February 10, 2011 Report Posted February 10, 2011 Been with 3 for 5 years now and am running a SanFran just fine on 3. 1: Try a different provider sim in the phone. 2: Make sure the phone is set to GSM & WCDMA AUTO so it switches between 2g and 3g. 3: Did you register the phone with the orange sim in it? If not the 2G fall back on Orange may not work as the network will have blocked the phone till it's registered. Psi
