apps2sd+ working when parition after flashing?

Hi guys,

I've successfully flashed R9 (the one with additions and apps2sd) , and its working great (really impressed!).

I forgot to partition before flashing, so instead, I used ROM Manager to create the partition afterwards. Does not having the partition during flashing mess up apps2sd+ ?

I'm very quickly running out of internal space, and now I'm starting to wonder whether its because some apps were installed before partitioning and went to internal, or whether I need to re-flash ??

Titanium shows the following:

Internal 154mb (21.7 free)

SD Card 7.40gb (7.20 GB free)

SD Card (a2sd): 479mb (386 mb free)

clearly some apps are making it to the ext partition, but why is the internal still so low then? Should I re-install all the apps now that i'm partitioned, wipe everything and re-flash and start from scratch again ?

thanks

Some data (app cache) remains on your phone so it depends on the amount of apps you have installed.

If you don't have a lot of apps and games then something is wrong. But it's normal if you have a lot of games because they usually need a lot of memory.

thanks for the quick post. I tried Cache Cleaner NG and that only free'd up about 2MB.

must be something else ?

Cache cleaner won't clean the whole app cache. If you have a lot of apps it's the cache that resides in /data/data/ . You can use root explorer and check how much space each directory uses. So try this or similar tool and you'll be able to check how big is that directory (it will show in the upper left corner).

installed Super Manager, and /data/data is where all the space is. I guess I'll just limit myself to the # of apps installed, i should have done some more reading on apps2sd+ before I got all excited about having any and every app installed

You can try using Data2Whatever. My Desire has a 16Gb SD card with a 512mb ext 3 partition. I am running Data2Whatever with R9 and have 157 installed apps (including the standard mail, messaging, etc). Titanium backup shows Internal 495Mb (189 mb free), and a2sd 262 Mb (85.5 Mb free) :)

Is the lag as bad as people say? What class is your SD Card and how long have you been using it with R9? I took a look at the thread but noticed that Modaco ROMs are not listed in their supported categry?

I've used data2whatever and data2sd and I have to say that although you get more internal memory it's useless if you don't have a card thats faster than Class 4. Data2sd and ext2 is the only usable alternative to a2sd now at least on my SD card.

I have to test the other implementation that Alex-V is using in his roms. People report good speeds with that.

So on my Class 4 SD card it goes like this:

data2sd on EXT2 = Ok speeds

data2sd on EXT3/4 = Laggy as hell

data2whatever (Tested versions 0,2e/ 0,4) = Laggy but not as laggy as data2sd (still useless if you install or update more than one thing from the market)

Thanks for the reply, based on your comments, I think will keep an eye out for a decent sale on a faster microSD card and only try it then.

This forum is awesome btw, the replies come quick and there are tons of good explanations out there to help bring people up to speed

bpivk: have you tried the data2sd implementation in the StarBurst ROM? i'd be interested to hear your feedback on that (if any) vs data2whatever on r9

No. I haven't used that rom. I have tried every something2something implementation I could find and I've tested it on RcMixHD, MCR, Cyanogen and Baadnewz rom.

The data2sd that droidzone implemented in starburst, is based tightly around sibere's data2sd. Droidzone turned it into a flashable zip which is now in siberes thread here:

You can flash it onto many a2sd roms, it should remove the a2sd scriot for you and create the filesystem.

I used data2sd since its infancy and it was fun for a while, but I prefer a2sd, even with my class 10 card.
