Guest chall32 Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 (edited) THE FIX This updated SMS/MMS app has been patched to fix the following issues: Sms sent to wrong recipient' bugs - See here for infoNotification goes to conv list bug - See here for info Picture Message size for O2 and giffgaff customers (by changing user agent to iPhone 3) - Discussed hereHere is a zip for flashing via recovery (Clockwork / AmonRA / etc): NewMMS.zip For those using Clockwork v3.0.0.0 and above: NewMMS_CLK3.zip This patched version is based on the Cyanogen Froyo 2.2.1 SMS/MMS app. Give it a spin (usual disclaimers apply and NANDROID FIRST!). Props should goto xaueious for rolling in the patches. THE DETAILS After a quick google around I found a complied MMS.apk available here that has been patched as detailed above, from: http://android.modaco.com/content/acer-liq...for-froyo-roms/: I downloaded CM6 tree a few days ago. So I just applied the patches by hand, did make Mms (for passion) and pushed the output apk to LCR 1.1.2, and it seems to not break the phone. I pushed from recovery. Anyways that's all to say that the fix can be backported to the relevant sections of 2.2 easily. Fixes 'Notification goes to conv list' and 'Sms sent to wrong recipient' bugs. Also did this: https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_pack...8d308a1fa3d4a0e Now if someone who knows what they are doing do the same... Basically it's Cyanogemod Mms Froyo package + d5d22194f33c47f61ffef62678d308a1fa3d4a0e + the 2 new patches. Source: http://www.multiupload.com/BXBXCLFCX4 Patched Mms APK: http://www.multiupload.com/P2GI1ZEGPH (I also rebuilt from Dream/Sapphire for my G1: http://www.multiupload.com/TUI816K9QM) This should be making its way into custom ROMs soon... You can find out the details of the bugs in the patch links above. Not sure if this is even a good idea. On the plus side, I think my MMS app just got Cyanogenmodized... Good night... I've tried it on my SF and it installs and appears to run OK (tested with SMS not MMS yet). I'm running KK's excellent Jap Jellyfish RLS9. - Chris Edited January 26, 2011 by chall32
Guest Frankish Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 Hmm not sure but it may need signing witht eh right key for the rom you use. Tried a Nandroid backup then restore with this apk installed?
Guest nunoar Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 What's the "Notification goes to conv list" bug? I never experienced the other one (thankfully). Did you get in with JJ ?

Tried a Nandroid backup then restore with this apk installed? Here's what I've done: Wiped, Flashed JJ-RLS9 (as it's only been released today, so good time to test modded MMS  !), rebooted, skipped setup, sorted apn, rebooted, flashed NewMMS.zip rebooted and tested Messaging.... What's the "Notification goes to conv list" bug? I never experienced the other one (thankfully). Did you get in with JJ ? No idea! I've not suffered from the wrong recipient SMS bug either. I'm not a huge SMS user. But as I say, given that KK has just released JJ-RLS9, today is a good day to apply this and test, as I for one am upgrading from RLS7 and need to wipe data anyway! Guest That-Guy Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 OK so for people running Froyo this should fix the following: - Notification goes to conv list bug. - Sms sent to wrong recipient' bugs - Picture Message size for O2 and giffgaff customers (by changing user agent to iPhone 3) Is this correct? I am already running the Cyanogen mms.apk file which fixed the picture message size problem, just want to make sure it is the same thing just with the android bugs fixed
Guest Carlos Abel Chavez Slim Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 Installed on JJ8 with clockwork. No problems to report as of yet.

Guest adamguest1985 Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 Any good for those of us on 2.1?
Guest DrEzkimo Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 sorry for being a noob, how would I add this fix to my system?
Guest hecatae Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 sorry for being a noob, how would I add this fix to my system? put it on sdcard, flash it using clockwork or ra recovery
Guest feckineejit Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 If i want to move this to system/app folder using adb, do i just need to unzip and move the apk file?
Guest Phoenix Silver Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 If i want to move this to system/app folder using adb, do i just need to unzip and move the apk file? no it's not a normal zip it's a zip file with commands in to make updates with clockwork
Guest chall32 Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 If i want to move this to system/app folder using adb, do i just need to unzip and move the apk file? Theoretically yes. extract the apk file from the zip and then adb push over the top of the existing mms.apk. You may need to stop the existing app just before pushing using the "Force Stop" option in Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All > Messaging to ensure that the messaging app isn't in use when you replace. Alternatively, use Titanium to backup and then remove Messaging. Then adb push the new version to /system/app. At least that way you would have backup of the old version should you need to go back for whatever reason. Not sure what happens with existing SMS / MMS messages as I did all of the above just after a wipe and flash, so I didn't have any messages in my inbox that I needed to keep. That said I think you can backup/restore just messages using Titanium anyway. - Chris
Guest targetbsp Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 The best thing about this is I can have my SMS app black again! (it's possible it was also an option in my previous version that I just missed in its defense)
Guest bruschi Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 must be doing something wwrong here, sorry for being a noob. I have put the zip file on the sd card. in clockwork, I go to 'install zip from sdcard'. and I install the mms.zip file. but it doesnt seem to be updated, as I see from the screen shots and other comments that the sms app should be black, not white background. so short of it all, how do I flash this and get it updated? thanks!
Guest Carlos Abel Chavez Slim Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 It's obviously keeping your white setting from the previous version.
Guest bruschi Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 It's obviously keeping your white setting from the previous version. anyway of making sure it is updated? its the wrong sms recipient that was the problem, and cant leave something like that to chance again. running JJRLS7. cheers
Guest The Soup Thief Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 Tried to install from the zip with the new clockworkmod v3.0.0.5 Installation aborted Amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported .... was deprecated in Android 1.5 It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to clockworkmod 3.0 gingerbread based recovery. Please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages.
Guest bruschi Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 anyway of making sure it is updated? its the wrong sms recipient that was the problem, and cant leave something like that to chance again. running JJRLS7. cheers hmm. the screen is now black anyway, just left it down for a few minutes, and when I went to text there, it had turned black. odd. anyway, I'm assuming its ok noow anyway!
Guest misterLjay Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 works great, cheers. and now able to view mms pics correctly
Guest tonydl Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 Should I install this fix even if I didn't notice any bugs? Are there any disadvantages?
Guest chall32 Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 anyway of making sure it is updated? its the wrong sms recipient that was the problem, and cant leave something like that to chance again. running JJRLS7. Check the version is 2.2.1 [settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All > Messaging] and that you have the additional options as shown in the middle screenshot in post #1 Tried to install from the zip with the new clockworkmod v3.0.0.5 Installation aborted Doh! I pinched KK's update script from one of his Jap Jellyfish add ons. I'll update the zip. Should I install this fix even if I didn't notice any bugs? Are there any disadvantages? Personally I didn't have the issue either. But then again I'm not a big SMS user. However when I do text someone, I do expect it to go to the correct recipient!!
Guest chall32 Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 Updated zip for Clockwork v3.0.0.5 and above in post #1
