Guest costan1986 Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 (edited) Yesterday my San Francisco has fallen to the ground, and now it gives to me "No SIM card" message. I opened the phone and I saw that the little card, that hosts sim and sd card, was unplugged. I put it in the right place, but now the phone works good for few minutes and then it shows the message again. I believe something is broken on this little card that I told, after the crash. Any chance on having only this part from somebody that has a faulty unit? Thanks Edited January 24, 2011 by costan1986
Guest Rotmann Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 I think you should buy a broken SanFran from eBay and replace that piece.
Guest isambard Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 I think you should buy a broken SanFran from eBay and replace that piece. tape it in place and if necessary add a sponge 'shim' to squash it in place when the cover is on.
Guest costan1986 Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 tape it in place and if necessary add a sponge 'shim' to squash it in place when the cover is on. I already tried to put some paper between the card and the cover for having more pressure on the contacts. But like I said, this works for few minutes. Just a little vibration and it shows the No sim Card message again. I'm going to check welds tomorrow in my friend's lab, hoping to find where's the problem.
Guest wakaru Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 Try a thicker paper, or as isambard sais, a amall piece of spounge that keeps the SIM compressed constantly. You'll have to try several sizes until you get the reight one I guess.
Guest Phoenix Silver Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 dumb question have you tried with a different sim card ? it's perhaps the sim card which is broken
Guest phlum Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 dumb question have you tried with a different sim card ? it's perhaps the sim card which is broken I second this. In fact, if you need another SIM there's a handy link in my signature. *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*
Guest costan1986 Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 My Sim is still good, it works fine in my other phones. I've solved with some paper on some points for making more pressure on the plug contacts. It works from this morning, I hope goes well in next days. Anyway, if someone has this damned card that host sd and sim as spare part for selling, please let me know
Guest costan1986 Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 Nothing to do...still having the message...damn! ;)
Guest isambard Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 can you send a photo of it? i'm not sure what piece you mean because from what i remember, the holder for the SIM and sdcard are separate.

No, bot sim and sd are on a little card that is separated from the mainboard. I'll post a picture later.

I guess he meant the secondary mainboard what hosts the SD card and SIM card. Just a suggestion, but have you tried cleaning and fixing the flex cable what connects this "card" to the motherboard? (under fixing I mean FIXING it into place, not repairing it ;) ). I don't think a simple drop would damage the mainboard so much that it loses contact, it must be a bit of a re-attaching or re-assembling problem.

Yes, this one in the picture (sorry for poor quality ;)) Everything seems ok with connection...just one thing I noticed this morning while making the photo, in the part I marked with YELLOW ring, seems to have a SMT resistor missing, I can see one "grey" colored, another "black" and an empty space between two holes. Maybe it's gone lost on the drop Edited February 1, 2011 by costan1986
Guest Sborovm Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 (edited) If someone will be so kind and tell you the number on the resistor (or measure the value if there isn't the number), it will be easy to fix it. But you have to find someone that could solder SMD parts. It had to be a good shot which ripped off the resistor. ;) Edited February 1, 2011 by Sborovm

My mistake on the picture! Resistors I was talking about are those on the YELLOW ring... Few minutes ago I noticed that one seems to be missing, and another one is floating...hope some friend could solder it! Edited February 1, 2011 by costan1986

Maybe it's gone lost on the drop aha, this explains more. i thought you lost the metal piece over the sim holder. i'd be surprised if the drop knocked off an SMT component but you never know... i would have guessed it is more likely the connection between the daughterboard and the mainboard.
Guest costan1986 Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 This morning I made the soldering on the floating resistor with my friend, he told to me that it seems to be a sort of fuse...so he just removed it and made a shunt. However, contacts that plug the card on the mainboard seems to be damaged, so we put some paper for making more pressure on it. Seems to work now, but anyway I'm still looking for the spare part to be sure that phone works without any problem. So, let me know if you see some damaged unit or spare parts for sale ;) thanks!
