i can't play AVI file format videos

also i tried to stream a MPEG2 video to SF, all the players show "Sorry, this video can't be played"...

i tried to play as well the online news channels with Stream Media Player (both "http" and "rtsp"), it failed ..

while Youtube plays fine with the specific app but not for SkyFire

can anyone help me please?

is it the problem of Android or the custom ROMs? i hvn't tried that with stock ROMs

use rockplayer play all files

it's not OK with RockPlayer as well

both using software and hardware decoding

when i click the hardware decoding mode, it shows the System player can't play the video

and show "can't play" the video in software mode

and i wanna know if there are any differences with streaming videos?

i had seen some solutions in the forum but not quite useful for my phone

sorry for asking stupid questions...

RockPlayer doesn't support streaming

and i lastly used VPlayer instead

thank you and sorry again...

but is there any method to make VPlayer to replace completely against the system player?

coz there'll be problems to play videos outside VPlayer (some apps simply embeds system player inside and don't provide any option for me to change, such as Stream Media Player)

i.e will the FFMpeg decoder applies universally to the whole system?

I use the simple (and free) command line tool FFMPEG to convert videos to natively play (that is using the built in Video app) on my SanFran. Sure there are lots of GUI based apps to convert video, but I prefer a command line app in this situation as once you understand the command and switches it's dead easy to tweak.

I don't have the exact commands with me at the moment, but I can post them tonight.

From memory you need to convert them to MPEG4/H.264 for native video playback in Android (same as iPhone).... As I say, I'll dig the commands I use out tonight.

i wanna stream the TV programmes to the phone and it's only played smoothly with mpeg2 format with lower resolution (about 480x320 2000kbps) is it the max quality SF can play? SF can't suppprt any resolution higher than that?

2000kbps? The iPhone 3Gs maxes out at 1500!

stream with vlc, setting 2000kbps totally including video and audio for mpeg2

but not quite good for mp4 even with low bitrate

can SF decode hardwarely for both mpeg2 and mp4?

resolution is the greatest obstacle while increasing bitrate doesn't make much problem

the blade does nativly support only H264

you can convert it with handbrake

http://handbrake.fr/details.php

Container

MP4-File

Picture

- Width = 320 - 800 (384 for DVD)

- Keep Aspect Ratio = On

- Anamorphic = None

Video Filter

- Detelcine and Decomb = Default

- other 'Off'

Video

- Video Codec = H.264 (x264)

- Quality = Constant Quality RF22

Audio

- Audio Code = AAC

- Mixdown = Stereo

- Samplerate = 44.1

- Bitrate 160

- DRC = 0

Advanced

8x8dct=0:bframes=0:cabac=0:nofast-pskip=1:analyse=all:weightb=0:me=umh

works for me

for avi you can try Meridian player.

in a few weeks VLC is available for android.

Here you go. Turned ito a bit of a megga post, so stuck it all up on my blog in the end.

http://chall32.blogspot.com/2011/01/video-...-or-iphone.html

Enjoy!

I'm fairly certain you are not encoding to H.264 using those options, just to Mpeg4 (h263?). IIRC you want -vcodec x264 or -vcodec h264

You can stream h264 to the default android video player using VLC (RTSP), I don't remember what settings I used, but it was very fussy about which options you select.
