Guest trevor432990 Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 I know several people here have installed Gmote (which for those people unfamiliar with it is a very neat free music streaming app) and I was wondering if anyone has managed to work out a way of pulling in album cover artwork on the Vega yet? I believe it is supposed to have that facility but the Gmote forum seems a bit short on info in this particular area.
Guest TylerDurdenK Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 I couldn't get gmote to work at all, but for what it's worth Subsonic works brilliantly for music and video, it also pulls album artwork as you requested.

Checked it out but I'm not keen on using web-based media servers. I guess pulling data from one machine and sharing it on the cloud is the way of the future but I'd sooner just have a private network for home use which Gmote does for me .... if I could only fix this pesky artwork issue  Edited January 25, 2011 by trevor432990
Guest warriorscot Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 It's always worked that way on mine it shows up album art just fine. I don't think it is able to fetch new album art but if its already in the same folder as the music it usually shows up fine.

My music is an an iTunes folder and it splits the artwork out into a separate folder called 'Album Artwork' with some weird 'Cache' folder filled with ITC2 files so probably very proprietary knowing Apple. What format are your albums covers in out of interest and what image size are they? I might have to go and scrounge them from off the internet and load them into each album folder.
Guest warriorscot Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 They are all in Jpeg format of various sizes, I don't use any appleware rubbish on my system so all my artwork either came with the music or was downloaded by either Winamp or Foobar etc. which follows the more traditional method of standard file formats and placing artwork inside the folders. However 95% of my music comes with some form of album art in the folder when I get it.

Update:- Tried it but didn't work. Are the jpeg's in a sub-folder or just in the same folder as the music? Edited January 25, 2011 by trevor432990

Guest debs626 Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 (edited) Thanks Debs is the filename for the album cover picture special or is it just the name of the album itself? Just had a fiddle with Gmote and I checked a few of the album covers that were displaying, one was named exactly as the album but the other two were just named as "front" lol so I guess you could call it what you want as it seems to display what ever pic is in the album file  edit : BTW not all of my album covers would display on the Vega, not sure why tbh but was just wondering if the gmote app reads the ID3 tag ??? or just simply looks for a picture within the same folder Edited January 26, 2011 by debs626
Guest DLCI Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 (edited) edit : BTW not all of my album covers would display on the Vega, not sure why tbh but was just wondering if the gmote app reads the ID3 tag ??? or just simply looks for a picture within the same folder I also think it's hidden within the ID3 tag - I use mp3tag freeware sw to edit&organize the mp3s and there you can assign a jpg to the mp3 tag by simple drag&drop. Afterwards the itunes recognizes the cover art, without placing the actual jpg it in the album folder r anything similar. Edited January 26, 2011 by DLCI
Guest trevor432990 Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 (edited) Thanks for the tips. I tried renaming the jpeg file to exactly the same name as the album but gmote still didn't want to display it even though it appears in the directory list along with the music so maybe it is this ID3 tag thingy causing the issue. I will carry on investigating :) Another thing I just noticed was the music files are in .m4a format so not sure whether that makes any difference to where it finds the artwork but music still plays OK regardless. Update:- Found some MP3s on my PC and then downloaded & installed the MP3tag software from www.cnet.com then managed to add some cover art pictures to the MP3s which now show when I select the music on Gmote. However when I do the same thing for the .m4a files on my iTunes library it still does not display the artwork which is very annoying ..... the investigations continue  Edited January 27, 2011 by trevor432990
