Hi,

Have installed the Japanese Jellyfish RLS9 ROM.

MY first 2.2 ROM

All looks good (big thanks for this) except for there being 10 APN's!

There seems to be one's for the main network carrier and one for all the other virtuals?

So O2, Tesco, and giffgaff.

I was able to delete these on the other ROMS I have used (though only O2 has shown before with other ROMs.

Is this something to do with 2.2 or have I messed something up?

Any way I can delete them?

Cheers

Hi,

You can try to delete them with "APN Backup & Restore" from the market.

Why there are so many APNs - sorry no idea.

Thanks for he replies.

I am guessing these are APNs stored on the SIM as I cannot even edit them?

I went back to 2.1. Here there were only a couple of O2 ones configured.

I was able to delete them and create my 2 preferred and working giffgaff APNs

Took a Titanium backup. Back to 2.2 (with 10 APNs again). Used Titanium to restore the APNs from 2.1.

This took care of it and all OK now.

there's an apnconf.xml located in /system/etc

you just have to replace it with an apnconf.xml that works for you

No they are in the rom

No need to remove them

all you do is touch the one you want so it's got the circle beside it highlighted and then it will work fine

all the apn's are there to save people having to put them in manually sometimes it will select the correct one by itself, other times you just select the one you want.

that does not work for me, probably because my sim card is meant to be in a iphone, find it easier to replace the apn-conf.xml

For giffgaff, try the giffgaffAPN app free in the market.

It has an option to remove other O2 related APNs and it worked for me.

Thanks but I do prefer to create my own.

To make sure there is no unnecessary proxy enabled (for the Internet one) and to ensure I am on the correct APN.

One for GPRS and one for MMS is all I need

Some good suggestions here for deleting the APNs.

I will try giffgaffAPN or 'APN Backup & Restore' next time I install a ROM.

Although the apnconf.xml replace looks like it may be the best idea and easiest way?

Thanks for all the ideas

I just reinstalled the ROM again to try this out.

Decided to go with the giffgaff app.

Before I installed/run it I rebooted phone (many times) and noticed that every time it starts I get a message:

"Connection cannot be made" which I have never had with any other ROM.

I turned off all network and GPS settings (rebooting after each setting I turned off)

Still got the message on startup.

Ran giffgaffAPN which set-up the correct giffgaff APNs and deleted the 10 others.

No longer get the "Connection cannot be made" message.

Have to assume that one of the APNs was responsible for this.

Anyway all good now and liking this ROM a lot.
