Guest GemPatsu Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 Hey, I´m running r6 + pp. Every time I rboot my Vega the Time and Date resets to 01:00; Jan 1. 2009, but it remembers the Region (GMT+01:00). Any Idea what might be the problem? Cheers

Guest GemPatsu Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 Go to SETTINGS > DATE & TIME SETTINGS and let us know what the values set in there say? Tried to make a screen shot but "shoot me" only produces black screens so here we go: After setting everything propperly: Set date 27/01/2011 -------------- Select time zone GMT+01:, Central... -------------- Set time 12:07 -------------- After reboot: Set date 01/01/2009 -------------- Select time zone GMT+01:, Central... -------------- Set time 01:00 Hope thats what you were asking for cause I´m not a native speaker :) The weird thing is it restores back to bios time (what it was when first switching on) 01.01.2009: 01:00 but remembers the changed time zone GMT+01.
Guest trevor432990 Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 How do you reboot your Vega currently? You should be holding down the power button for > 6 seconds then wait a few seconds then press power button for >2 seconds to do a hard reboot is that how you do it?

To switch it of I hit the power button until the menu appears and then i choose "power of".

OK well set the time/date and then power down the way I said and see if it makes any difference to your problem. I never power mine off the way you mentioned but in theory it should be no different but would be interested to hear your findings

If flashing to a stock ROM doesn't help, all I can suggest as workaround is to download this app which synchronises the Vega with an atomic clock, it has an option to sync on boot: http://www.appbrain.com/app/clocksync/ru.org.amip.ClockSync

I use ClockSync myself too. Don't think the Vega has a backup battery or at least not one that is accessible AFAIK

So I flashed Higgsys Rom from XDA which is based on 1.08. And its all the same. So as I´m the only one facing this problem on diffrent Roms it looks like it is something like a faulty battery (if there is such thing?). Will try the app you sugested. Thanks guys.
Guest GemPatsu Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 So back on Pauls r6 (can´t wait for r7). Installed ClockSync and it´s working great (installed on my Galaxys S aswell). Thanks!!
Guest Alex foster Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 (edited) Just to let you know, there are at least 3 other people having this problem, 1 is me, another is a mate who brought a Vega the same time as me and one a guy called Rhysd2 on this forum. They can't all be faulty.....can they? I am on 1.09 and I went from R6 to R8 Edited March 4, 2011 by Alex foster

They can't all be faulty.....can they? I am on 1.09 and I went from R6 to R8 I just purchased the Vega on Wednesday, night. I have flashed it to 1.09 and R8 of pauls rom and it works great but I am also having this problem. Every time I power it off it reverts the date and time. So at least 4 people now. Are they all recent purchases? A bad batch maybe ?
Guest Alex foster Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 (edited) They all look recent, we are now on 5 people including this one, not sure what to do, do I send it back? Edited March 4, 2011 by Alex foster

Guest spacecadetuk Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 Please dont turn your device off like that .... Asking for trouble if you do Why? I‘ve had my vega for three months and that's how i turn mine off, never had any problems at all.
Guest simonta Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 (edited) Why? I‘ve had my vega for three months and that's how i turn mine off, never had any problems at all. Then you've been lucky (so far). By all means, long press Home and select "Power off" which does a "graceful" shutdown and ensures that any open files on the sdcard are properly flushed and closed. If you hold power off until it switches off, Android is just killed. Any open files will not flush or close cleanly and on a non-journalled file system like FAT or ext2, you are dodging a corrupted SD card each time you do it. Even with NTFS or ext3/4, it's just bad practice as journals will get you out of trouble 99 out of 100 but that 1%, where you corrupt the indexes, can be really painful. Do yourself a favour and get into the habit of selecting power off, or using an app to shutdown and save the >6 seconds thing for when you really need it. Cheers Edited March 4, 2011 by simonta
Guest warwound Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 (edited) I bought my Vega yesterday and noticed that after a reboot date and time settings were lost. That was stock firmware, i upgraded to the MCR r8 firmware and still lose date and time settings after a reboot. Other settings - bluetooth name for example - are all saved. Is it best to return it for an exchange? warwound. Edited March 5, 2011 by warwound

Cheers thanks Simonta that is usefull advice, as a total noob i luckily always power down using the "proper" method but i had no idea that the other method could be harmful. regards Alan
Guest Rhysd2 Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 still getting this after a reflash. any ideas?
Guest warwound Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 still getting this after a reflash. any ideas? Is it RMA time for us unlucky ones? warwound
Guest racingclub Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 My Vega is around 2 weeks old - I dont get this...
Guest warwound Posted March 7, 2011 Report Posted March 7, 2011 (edited) Well i'm now restoring the stock ROM and am going to try for a replacement unit later(local PC World has them in stock). Meanwhile i've discovered that my Vega DOESN'T lose date and time settings when doing a power off/on cycle with the charger plugged in. I'll report back later then with news of whether i managed to get a replacement :( . warwound. [edit]My Vega still loses date and time settings with latest stock ROM so i suspect a hardware fault.[/edit] Edited March 7, 2011 by warwound
Guest Rhysd2 Posted March 7, 2011 Report Posted March 7, 2011 dagnamit I really dont want to have to swap it out. Let us know if its fine once you get a replacement.
Guest warwound Posted March 7, 2011 Report Posted March 7, 2011 Back from PC World with a replacement, no problems - they were happy to exchange it. The new Vega booted with correct date and time settings first time - i didn't even have to set them. I powered off and waited a few minutes and rebooted - date and time still remembered! Now to flash the MDC r8 and reinstall some apps... warwound.
