I've recently picked myself up the San Francisco Orange, which i've also been told is the exact same as the ZTE Blade. I have been thinking about installing the Japanese Jellyfish firmware.

My main worry is that I will lose all of my contacts, pictures, videos, etc. If I was to install a new firmware, would this happen?

Thanks

Rob.

Yes.

Now please spend a some time searching and reading the guides.

As stated please read the guides and faq's posted in the forum - lots in the pinned posts at the top of the page

look in the rom section

The search button is also your friend, and if you press "More Search Options" once you click it, you can search for titles of posts as well to help you narrow down your enquiry and you can also tell it where to search.

Don't worry about your contacts, as soon as you made the google account and put your contatcs in they were uploaded to Google's server.

the good part about this is you will never lose them again

All you have to do is whenever you flash a new rom, or do a full reset, sign into Google (you have to anyway)

Then wait a few minutes while your phone syncs with Googles servers, and your contacts will reappear

It's also very handy for when you change phones, the next Android phone you get you know you don't have to worry about how you'll transfer your contacts.

Pictures and video's and other bits are stored on your memory card so no they wont be lost either (unless you wipe it - but no need)

Read the posts, learn about it and experiment

When I got my first Android phone a few months ago I knew nothing about it, 6 hours after buying the phone I had rooted it,installed Clockwork mod and flashed a new rom and have flashed it many times since then as well as modifying the roms to get them to be the way I want them to be.

It's easy - dont be afraid

The only advice I will give you is whatever you do make sure you install clockwork mod, and then every time you wnt to flash a new rom do a backup

you will see nandroid backup mentioned all over the forum, it had me stumped for ages trying to work out what this was, but it's simply a backup made using clockwork mod

it's essential because if you do mess things up and your rom won't work, or it just keeps restarting or you just don't like it you simply restore the backup - even if your phone won't boot properly.

To experienced users Please be nice to new users, remember we were all new at one stage - yes he would have seen the info if he searched but be honest how many of us thought we were the first person asking a question only to be flamed by older users for asking it

Thank you. This was a lot more helpful than Ash_P's post. I have been told to make sure I pick the correct ROM depending on what screen I have. I dialled the number that I found lying around on the forum, and it said that I had the TFT/LCD screen. I went to search for the Japanese Jellyfish ROM and it said OLEC+TFT version. Does this mean that the ROM is compatible with both OLED and TFT screens?

Thanks

Rob.

Most newer roms are compatible with both types, JapJelly included

Sorry, but it was obvious you hadn't made any attempt to find out the information yourself, so my advice is still very useful and stands - look at the guides and search and only then post a question.. Don't expect to be spoon fed - Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day etc etc.
