Guest Jhet Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 (edited) Bit of background to this problem. When a user switches on their phone they get the following error: "The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again" The error must be forced closed. However it reappears over and over again until the SIM is taken out. Some others on Irish forums have posted complaining about this error. At the moment the pattern i've noticed is: 1. They are all Vodafone IE customers. (Vodafone Ireland) 2. The problem does not occur on the any of the 2.1 roms. Partial Working Solution: Best answer - Oskyldig (Top Contributor) Go to this answer I have just experienced this exact problem on my magic. The way to solve the problem is (at least in my situation - returning from a holliday in France) 1. Choose SETTINGS - WIRELESS CONTROLS - MOBILE NETWORKS - 2. uncheck everything unnecesary ie. "Data Roaming" and "Enable always-on mobile" - 3. Change setting on "Use only 2G networks", wait 10 seconds, then change it back. 4. Now try NETWORK OPERATORS. Here you will get a network error (Not the "com.android.phone" error) Just continue and you'll get your wanted network. The reason for this behavior is that android uses a new type of network and supports old ones. Some countries dosen't use this new network. When your android phone makes a handshake in these countries it'll accept without error, but when it returns to the new type it won't connect. This must be a bug and you can solve / workaround this by doing the above 54 of 129 people found this answer helpful. Did you? Sign in to vote. Google Solution Link I'm on Vodafone IE but the above solution only partially works. When you turn the phone off and turn it back on again the error reappears. The error seems to be related to the handshaking process old Network types V's new Network Types. It a bit over my head to be honest and the solution above is poorly written. The long and short of it is that its a bug, a bug that google appear to have done nothing to fix. I'm speculating here but if its a problem for Vodafone IE I'm guessing it could be a problem for other users around the world on similar Network types. Solutions I've recieved that DON'T WORK: 1. Reseting phone and wiping data 2. Wiping various cache's Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks Edited January 27, 2011 by Jhet
Guest hecatae Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 (edited) okay a bit of background on this would be nice, does this happen on Vodafone Ireland branded Android handsets, or just unbranded Android phones with Vodafone Ireland simcards? how long has this been going on for? Guest slartibardfast0 Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 (edited) Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. Hi Jhet, I had the same trouble with my vodafone ireland sim. Thankfully, the solution is simple, just go into any vodafone shop and get a free replacement sim! Edit: Apparently some pre-2008 Vodafone Ireland SIM cards exhibit problems with Android. A new (free) 128k sim fixes this issue. Edited January 27, 2011 by slartibardfast0

Hiya I've a blade in Ireland running on a Vodafone ie sim (PAYG) Have seen this problem once or twice after flashing a new rom or after doing something a bit daft (like shoving on a new wallpaper incorrectly). Each time I assumed it was happening cos of the daft thing I just did and undid it. So reflashed the ROM properly or whatever Aside from this I don't think I've seen it, and not since about November anyway, since which time I've been using Froyo ROMs exclusively Fraid the answer from Oskyldig doesn't make much sense wrt my own experiences, but I can't speak for others obviously For one, I generally have 3G networks and data connectivitiy (other than wireless) switched off Out of interest, where are the Irish forums? I saw a couple of posts on boards.ie before christmas but assumed that had all died down Are people still posting? [just checked] Crikey! There's 36 pages of chat! May have to have a look when I've more time EDIT - just saw slartibardfast0's post - by the strangest coincidence, I got a new sim for my phone in mid October after losing the old one Not sure if this coincides with the most recent episode of the problem, but as I say it never seemed to happen other than after a bit of brain surgery and was always pretty easily remedied with a reflash of a recently misinstalled ROM or whatever Edited January 27, 2011 by The Soup Thief

Makes perfect sense would have been round the time the whole iphone/android thing started to kick off so obviously a new sim was required. @The Soup Thief yep its was boards.ie! The oul ZTE Blade is getting quite a reputation over there!......mainly due to all the work the good folks over here are doing! Thanks Guys!

Though I did put the new sim into my old phone first to make sure it was working.
