1.06.5 vs 1.08

Hi

After trying 1.08 for a few days, I just thought I would jot down some notes/observations. I was previously running 1.06.5 with the performance pack, but no Clockwork recovery btw.

I backed up my apps with Titanium, and ran the 1.08 install from the Vega web site - all went fine. Booted up OK and seemed to be working as expected. Tried a Quadrant and scored over 2,400, better than I had ever seen on my machine.

After reading up on stuff on here about 1.08, I installed just the Modaco stuff, small menu etc but no performance pack. Well, I didn't as it happens, the install-windows.bat failed with errors that inferred it was running out of space to install. I started again, same issues - very odd. When it hadn't completed properly I also had no root access. Eventually I baked an install that only had a few bits in it (trying to reduce the size) and in installed OK. I then added the bits (well most) I'd missed manually.

So after a restore from Titanium, I was all running - Quadrant still over 2,400 - I was well happy.

However, in general use (no scientific proof sadly) the machine felt laggy and not so fluid to use. Icons would highlight and pause slightly before apps opened, scrolling was slightly jerky, and even the live wallpaper had noticeable pauses. I took the Vega on a road trip to London (as I have done numerous times) and I had trouble logging onto the train wifi AND the office wifi - just seemed to hang for ages when connecting - no idea if that was anything to do with 1.08, but never had the issue before...

Tonight I decided to roll back to 1.06.5 - put the original Modaco stuff with performance pack back on the machine, and have been using it this evening - its like having an old friend back, and things are silky smooth again - but Quadrant is back down to 2,280

I have now also put Clockwork on (2.5.18) as I don't fancy going through all that again too often, and I want to be ready when r7 hits - I just hope that with the kernel release imminent, r7 comes along soon.

As I said, non scientific, but just thought my experiences might be of interest to some

I also have 1.08 and found it to lag sometimes. All I did was open the task manager and close everything and it's all back to normal. I don't know what other effects it has when doing this.

Quadrant is 2340.

Very interesting. Think I shall stick with my v1.06 system until you guys have pioneered the next way forward. Thanks for your efforts
