Guest bugeyes Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 (edited) WOOHOO! dont know how recent this update to skyfire is but its today i think! Iplayer works well a very little bit jerky but very nice pic quality and no sound lag! the one downside i've found is when you try to access a program with parental guidance you cant hit the tick box....hmmm anyone know how to avoid the pop up box? i tried opening an iplayer account with my age listed but it still pops up! just off to try tvcatchup......will report my findings! so Far Filmon.com- almost works it buffers the channel but the screen just blanks out tvcatchup--sometimes get sound but no picture yet tho it is starting the stock streaming app just like other browsers!? Iplayer using Skyfires optional views- in desktop view it works fine except the parental guidance popup - in android view you can get past the pop up but the video wont play! (arse!) - in default view same as desktop view Edited January 27, 2011 by bugeyes
Guest Magnets Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 Using desktop (or android) view it gives me an error on the BBC iplayer page saying "your phone is not supported".
Guest daisyhayseed Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 Good call just tried it through the BBC desktop page and it works.

Guest nick_sub Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 Nice find! Works fine on JJr7. Thought it wasn't working at first as the webpage was asking to install the flash player but then I realised you have to play the video via the tab in the bottom left. Quality was fairly poot but watchable.

Guest redbaron51 Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 Wow it works! I'm using JJ8, I think it's better quality than beebPlayer and myPlayer. Thanks OP....have just installed Skyfire 3.2 and iplayer is working fine (tried bbc news @ 6 from yesterday) ;)
Guest prtrp Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 I guess there won't be a fix soon for the parental control. The reason being the fact that the flash content is transcoded by Skyfire (servers?) and then sent to your browser. So basically the parental window is just an image that you won't be able to click on..
Guest saabron Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 Also because skyfire uses a proxy type setup ( dont know if my terminology is totally accurate) iplayer can be accessed by non uk ip addresses . Prior to now I could never access it as I am in Ireland and licencing issues prevent us using iplayer etc but now it works , wonder how it would look if you were to line out or hdmi out from an android tablet onto a vdu or lcd screen .

With the mobile version you can actually hit the button to cancel the parental guidance pop up but after that the video stream doesn't work. ...... I would imagine skyfire could fix this ,think ill send them a link to this thread!
Guest grumpyoldman Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 Using desktop (or android) view it gives me an error on the BBC iplayer page saying "your phone is not supported". Same problem here. No advice seems to have been offered to fix this. Can anybody help with detailed instructions please? Presume that BBC iPlayer is reading stored phone settings, accessed through Skyfire, and that is the evidence used to compare to their table of phones that Orange SanFran is not a supported phone. Because Skyfire was newly installed it had not used browser settings specifically for URLs intended for mobile phones (or imported settings from other browsers). So after uninstalling Skyfire and its data, I guess I need to delete/hide/alter the mobile phone settings data that the BBC iPlayer/Desktop is reading in Skyfire that results in "your phone is not supported". I don't know how to do that.
Guest Phoenix Silver Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 just tried works fine even from the France
Guest pjoates Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 So after uninstalling Skyfire and its data, I guess I need to delete/hide/alter the mobile phone settings data that the BBC iPlayer/Desktop is reading in Skyfire that results in "your phone is not supported". I don't know how to do that. I tried to access iplayer on the stock browser and got "your phone is not supported" and like the above I still get this message with skyfire 3.2 so presume that grumpyoldman is correct in thinking a block has been placed. But how to find it?
Guest daydotz Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 (edited) nope ive got 3.2.0.21543 an it still doesnt work for me in the uk Edited February 4, 2011 by daydotz
Guest james1uk Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 Been reading the skyfire blog and it states that "... there are some websites that restrict access to thier content (videos) to ip addresses only in those specific countries. These sites often host tv or movie content. For instance, BBC iplayer is available only to UK users. When Skyfire requests that content on a users behalf, since our servers are in the US, BBC does not make that content available to us and we cannot optimize that video for our users in the UK. Same issue with Rogersondemand.com in Canada, rte.ie in Ireland and so on." So that explains why we are not getting the full iplayer. But at least we are able to watch some content But some good news as they go on to say.... "at skyfire we are working hard to make those websites work using the SkyBarTM toolbar, in a way that respects the geo-boundaries for end consumers intended by media owners. Over the next few months, we will continue to build technology that passes information automatically to websites when we are making a request on behalf of a user in a specific home country. please stay tuned and know that we will continue to work towards a solution." So hopefully not long to wait until we get a better iplayer experience.
Guest Faber01 Posted March 31, 2011 Report Posted March 31, 2011 If you're getting a "phone not supported message" then the trick is to avoid going directly to the iplayer website, instead you go to the bbc programmes list and choose the programme you want to watch from there, it will then take you to that particular show's website and the latest episode will be available to watch there.
