Guest Shaizer Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 Hey all, I got my vega recently so it came preinstalled with 1.08, I thought I'd keep it like that because it fixes the hypersensitive screen issue, when I installed the MCR custom rom however I did not seem to have root and could not get superuser permission on any apps like USB mode switcher and Adfree. I know that r6 pack is for v1.06.5 but has anyone else installed r6 on 1.08 and not had root? I also tried Visionary both temp and permaroot, the vega did reboot but no root still =( Thanks! and sorry if this was mentioned elsewhere =O

Tried this a couple of times and then went back to 1.06.5
Guest gdwhitehouse Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 Did you happen to notice if the install-windows.bat finished successfully - I had that issue when the installer gave errors due to 'not enough room' and busybody was not installed. I ended up trying a much smaller install (less bits) G
Guest lordjubblydave Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 (edited) I just installed 1.08 with r6 and visionary perma root worked for me no problems. Not helpful to you but at least you know its possible Edited January 27, 2011 by lordjubblydave
Guest heroin11 Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 My vega came with 1.08 aswell and my didn't root at 1st but z4root did the job just fine
Guest Shaizer Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 When I was installing the MCR custom rom there were messages such as Insufficient space available but it finished ok at the end but no root =(
Guest Graham Macleod Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 When I was installing the MCR custom rom there were messages such as Insufficient space available but it finished ok at the end but no root =( It can be done. First time I just ticked all the boxes and it ran out of space - result was no root. Second time, following gdwhitehouse's comments above, downloaded a stripped down version and it installed just fine - with root. I'm curious though, should I install the performance pack with 1.08? Anyone know? Without it (which I what I thought was the right thing to do) it does seem a bit unpredictable.

I think that the only benefit would be the small notification bar. Maybe you should wait for Paul to make some changes, first. Edited January 29, 2011 by HunteronX
Guest warriorscot Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 Performance pack doesn't have an effect on 1.08 as far as I know advent have included all the PP files with the latest update. Having tried it with and without it yields a quadrant score only 1 point higher so no need but it won't have any ill effects if you do apply it from what I have seen so far. As long as there was a clean install of 1.08 I didn't have any problems with the add on pack with a non-clean install I couldn't get small bar because it ran out of space. Pretty common problem with features not getting installed because of insufficient space.
Guest Graham Macleod Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 That's what I thought, but it's made a big difference. I was getting fed up with 1.08, lot's of stuttering and freezes. I put the performance pack back and it's smooth as butter again.

Btw, Its the r6 of Paul's MCR right? thanks,
Guest andycap Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 (edited) I installed 1.08 and installed a cut down pack from paul, I left out things like car/home app, voice search, fast search. Mine rooted fine but was very sluggish at times so I added the PP in the kitchen and re-applied it with the same options + PP and all was fine. Rooted fine and no more sluggishness. I conclude from this that Advent did not add all the PP parts and that Paul's is still needed on 1.08. PS. to strip down the R6 pack you need access to the kitchen to be able to select what you want and what you don't. Edited February 2, 2011 by andycap
Guest carl rose Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 I had root but had to delete some apk's from the install
