Guest amsel Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 Okay, so I've got me an OSF, which I can't yet use as a phone because Three are useless *****. During this downtime, I'd like to load my phone with the fastest and bestest ROM around. So, I ask two questions: 1) Has anyone yet compiled a table of all the major ROMs and how they perform at various things? 2) If they haven't, I'll volunteer to do it, so what ROMs do people want tested, and what benchmarks and tests are people interested in? EDITED: to remove an offending word*

Guest amsel Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 2: Modaco r11 Japanese Jellyfish 9 FLB r6 I've now benchmarked a clean stock at Linpack and Quadrant. Anything else I should look at? Also, this Modaco r11 thing - is there a way of getting r11 without shelling out £30? All I can see is R7 available to tightwad scroats like myself.

There is no other way to get r11, you either wait for the r12 release (so r11 is going free as prebaked) or go for JJR9 Edited January 28, 2011 by vareBlade

Guest Rotmann Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 You do know that benchmarks only tell half the story and are very manipulative? I can give you 400 or 1100 in quadrant on the same device just after a build.prop edit and a restart (2 minutes). Also your vocabulary and trying to get the R11 without paying does not put you in a good light, you know.

I came here for either a pre-made table, or to contribute to the community by compiling one. Instead, I've been given a hard-sell routine on something that really doesn't benefit me any. It's not giving me a great deal of motivation to publish my findings.

You can either pay for the new shiny, or wait until the new shiny becomes not the new shiny. If you don't want to pay €9.99 then that is your choice. Moaning about it makes you look like a cheap jerk. Just don't pay or use one of the other roms available here. You don't have to whine like a little baby about it.

I made this thread because I wanted to know if there was a pre-existing table that compared the performance of the various San Fran ROMs, and if there wasn't, because my phone is unusable for about the next day (again, tyvm, Three), I volunteered to do the testing and compile a table myself. A similar thing was useful to me when I was deciding between ROMs on my previous phone, and I thought it might be useful to the people here, too. I didn't want to get the Modaco R11, someone wanted me to get it.

Not sure why you think you're being given a "hard-sell routine"? R7 is available for free....help yourself and enjoy. If you want to bench mark R11 then cough up £10 and enjoy the latest & greatest of Paul's ROMs. Creating a benchmark chart might be mildly interesting but as RotMann explained the results can be easily "fiddled" to give false results so it's kinda pointless. You may not have made the friendly impression you intended to.....come in and try again ;)

I saw R6 and R7 linked to in the text, so I just assumed R11 would be linked to somewhere, too. Instead, I'm apparently a "cheap jerk" for seemingly trying to scam a copy, or something like that. But, hey ho.
