no! I am sure it was you that asked this in another thread

booting to recovery by that method is down to the bootloader (hboot) not the kernel

That's in the bootloader, not the kernel.

so can you make a mod to allow this to be done?

and also will it BSOD if you have 1.06 and 2.5.1.8 when you switch usb modes?

Posted

Theoretically if you modify the bootloader (not the kernel), which is non trivial.

Switching USB modes is completely independent of the ClockworkMod version.

saw this posted on xda:

Disable mounting /misc in init.rc that will stop the black screen of death ;)

is it the the misc partition getting corrupted causing the bsod ?

Not covering yourself in glory here oli...

If I were you I would take the block on twitter as a hint. If that's not something you understand then try reading answers to your questions a little more carefully. Pay particular attention to the words "non trivial". Roughly translated as either "very difficult" or "no"

I don't plan to modify the bootloader, because i'm working on other solutions to this problem and it's beyond my area of expertise.

i am blocked at twitter due to a difference of opinion on the point that you should'nt be forced to pay for ROMs and a point that me and a friend made of Update your win zip br0 and that applies in this case so update your win zip pr0 thanks kbai

Seems to me that olionair is close to losing his £10 he so admittedly didn't want to pay for with this thread.

So, let's not lower to his level, back on topic!

Interesting about the /misc partition, i'll have a poke around... it almost certainly shouldn't be mounted. I'll check my CWM device profile too.

my level?

IIRC one of the P1AN0 variants did have a slightly different bootloader that had key combinations for entering recovery.

That said, I might also hit up DSG about it.

I may be a bit slow but what has winzip pro got to do with the kernel?

Wasn't him who asked was me ;) .

I read somewhere (here/xda?) that with custom kernels some sort of 'HTC like hibernate' would be possible. Is that true/ doable. I would love to see this option on our vega.

The UK My basket. Well yeah that would theoretically be possible but may take a lot of work.

in the init.rc i see:

mount yaffs2 mtd@misc /misc nosuid nodev

chown system misc /misc

chmod 0770 /misc
