Guest BradD15 Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 Hello all, I frequently have problems unlocking my Streak screen after I haven't used it for a while. I have the same problem when answering phone calls also. I'm running StreakDroid 1.6.1 at the moment. I have calibrated my screen multiple times, but that didn't work. I also tried an auto task killer (which improved the unlocking issue), but it seemed to make the phone unstable and required frequent reboots. Does anyone else have this problem or have any ideas as to how I might alleviate it? Thanks for the help!
Guest LorD CLockaN Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 I've been having thisproblem only since 1.6.0, not before
Guest tjagolf33 Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 This is a problem I've always had with the Streak. It seems to be caused by the phone or your hands being to cold or wet. I've always had the experience outdoors or just after coming in from the outdoors, and have been easily able to rectify it by allowing the phone to adjust to room temp and drying it off. Is annoying, though!
Guest Passe Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 same problem here on Streakdroid 1.6.1 (1.6.0 not tested)
Guest BradD15 Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 I have had this problem on every version of StreakDroid (starting at 1.1.1 I think). I can't remember for sure, but I thought I had it on O2 2.1 also. Also, I don't believe it to be (purely) environmental as it will happen while I've been sitting at my desk at work. I do tend to have cold hands though, so I'll keep that in mind.
Guest foxhoundep3 Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 If it happens after you take it out of your pocket, its cause by friction, make sure you put the phone with the screen facing away from you, always works
Guest sideshow Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 If it happens after you take it out of your pocket, its cause by friction, make sure you put the phone with the screen facing away from you, always works I've also had this issue ever since going to Froyo, I'm assuming just because there was no slider in 1.6 to malfunction. Search around here and other forums and you'll see a few threads complaining about the "sticky lock screen". As someone who wears the streak in their front pants pocket with the screen facing inwards, I definitely subscribe to the heat/friction theory. It's pretty much guaranteed to happen to me if my phone rings while walking or cycling. Not really sure if it's possible to fix. I'm curious to know if it's happening to people running official froyo, though I can't imagine why it wouldn't. A few workarounds: -Enable the builtin pattern lock thingy. I just enabled this suggestion a few days ago and so far so good. Seems strange that it should work better since it still involves sliding your finger around, but I suppose they're shorter slides, and different code in any case. Of course this won't help with call answering. -Install NoLock or similar market apps. I haven't tried this but it's basically the same idea as above. -For both sliders, the following finger finesse seems to work most of the time: push and hold the green button until the target green dot appears. With your finger still on the green button, push and hold the dot with another finger. While holding the dot, remove your first finger from the green button. This really does work as it tricks the slider into thinking it has slid. Good luck. Hopefully this will get fixed someday. Like some other people, I'm too paranoid to walk around with my screen facing outwards in my pants. I have cracked a screen before doing that (thankfully on an ancient Nokia years ago, but still the trauma lingers..)

Guest PainCorp Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 i had the pattern lock on 1.6 and never had this issue. i do now, and i'll even notice it sometimes after i unlock my phone that i can't touch all the icons on the home screen. i'm also hesitant to carry it with the screen facing outwards since ive cracked screens that way before.
Guest LorD CLockaN Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 Well I think pattern lock won't help, because I can't answer the call either...
Guest MikeF74 Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 I was frequently plagued by this problem. Quite frustrating indeed. Once I started putting the device in my pocket with the screen facing outward, the problem has totally disappeared. Quite the design flaw. I'm sure there are a whole lot of people who are still endlessly frustrated by this. Common sense tells you to face the screen toward your body to protect it.
Guest undrwater Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 I think the flaw is the capacitive screen. I'll bet there are other phones with big screens having similar problems. Maybe testing a static electricity discharge tool could be useful.
Guest Roperband Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 I find that WidgetLocker helps a bit with this problem, but it still pops us here and there. I will try keeping the phone facing out like others have suggested. -BTW, I"ve been having almost double the battery life with No Lock installed and WidgetLocker. I don't know why, but I'd wake up with the original lockscreen and have 82% battery. Now I'm waking up with 94%...the only change is a different lockscreen.
Guest d3v Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 I use a comination of Menu Unlock - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=676514 and Free Caller ID Free App Market - they works fine for me.
Guest Luxusxda Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 I've had this problem in every build od Streakdroid and official froyo. In my experience screen calibration helps, but does not eliminate the problem. I havent noticed any pattern connected with how I wear the streak in pants or outside temperature. Also sometimes especialy after answering the phone with difficulty there is a general slowdown which is sloved only with a reset. I use no task or battery managers. Setcpu on smartass. These problems are less common in 1.6.1 than in previos builds imo.
Guest alberbg Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 I had same problem and solved recalibrating screen. I'm using no screen lock app too.
Guest BradD15 Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 So far, the "finger finesse" has done the trick for me. Thank you sideshow! I'm still tinkering with other solutions though.
Guest jmhalder Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 I'm still tinkering with other solutions though. Is this a hardware issue? or something that can be fixed in the baseband or driver? Seriously, after using a SGS touchscreen, the streak one is garbage. If its a hardware issue, shame on Dell, there are SOOO many people that have the problem, its pathetic.
Guest Jason Burns Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 I started getting this pretty bad on Dell's 318 build. I factory reset a few weeks ago and the issue has not returned.
Guest Wee Thomas Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 I don't think it is a touchscreen issue. My streak after long periods of inactivity is very sluggish and takes cycling the screen on/off a couple times before it's back to being snappy. I think the Streak's CPU governor just takes way to long to ramp up from low power mode.
Guest Emission Posted March 2, 2011 Report Posted March 2, 2011 Same thing seems to happen to me, particularly after getting out of a call (and having part of the screen make contact with my face for some period of time). I've found that taking the battery out and putting it back in fixes the problem, so it must be a software issue. The screen will go from completely unresponsive before pulling the battery to 100% fine after a reboot. This is on Froyo 2.2, can't really remember if I was having this problem with 1.6.
Guest marvin02 Posted March 2, 2011 Report Posted March 2, 2011 Emission, try holding the power button down for about 15 seconds to turn phone off when it locks up. This will usually power the phone down and you can then restart. I have seen the unresponsive screen on every Android phone I've had. Most of the time locking with the power button, waiting about 5 seconds, and then unlocking it will fix it. Since I have had the issue in some form (usually minor) on five different phones I wonder if it's not an issue with the capacitive screen technology itself. I see this issue reported in almost every phone forum.
Guest sozofriend1234 Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 I faced this issue and got my streak replaced thrice. Then in 4th set, faced same issue. So I disabled lock screen entirly and since then it is not happening.
