Guest amsel Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 Heylo all. Just a quick question this one. I bought my OSF a few days ago, and it's been lovely and arrived in near-perfect condition (my only quibble with it being that the buttons are a little stiff) and all seems good, but two things seem odd. First, is that when I ran Androot on it, it reported that the phone was already rooted. Second, when I put my 3 SIM in it, it just worked. No unlock code required or anything. Now, I was running the Japanese Jellyfish ROM when the phone turned out to be unlocked, so I guess that could have something to do with it, although I don't recall reading anywhere that installing the ROM would sim-unlock the phone. I'm just curious. Could the phone being pre-rooted and pre-unlocked mean that it's a customer return? If it is, are there any security issues I should be concerned about? Cheers all.

Yeah supposedly some of the replacements are actually refurbished phones so you might be unlucky BUT! Japanese jellyfish is already rooted. So that could be why

Did you do the root attempt and put the 3 sim AFTER you put jellyfish in the phone? In that case it's normal because I recall jellyfish not checking sim-lock and it comes pre-rooted.
Guest targetbsp Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 Androot is also crap at judging a blades current root status. ;)
Guest Scoopading Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 (edited) It's normal that Universal Androot will report it's rooted the very first time you run it on a stock San Francisco, because it did the exact same thing to me as well. As targetbsp has said, you will soon learn not to trust what Androot tells you ;) For one thing it won't properly stay rooted when you reboot the phone. It might think it's rooted, but "Go root" must be selected after every reboot. Also, stay away from its "Soft Root" option and just stick to the "Go Root / Undo Root" buttons for when you want root. However, if it ran with a different network SIM card on the unmodified stock rom, that's a bit strange. It's not impossible Orange could be sending out a batch of phones which aren't carrier locked, but I'd doubt it. However some 2.2 ROMS are known to have a "side effect" where they'll unlock the phone. So if you'd already installed 2.2 that is likely normal. Edited January 30, 2011 by Scoopading
Guest MadeInBeats Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 Yes, Androot said mine was already rooted when I used Androot, So it's nothing to go on to be honest.
