Vega abused by my son - stuck in Advent screen boot loop

So, had my Vega setup exactly the way I like, running 1.06 MCR R6 PP and small task bar, and no complaints whatsoever.

Every night I leave the Vega on a book shelf seven feet off the ground - the thinking being that the

wife can still get to it during the day by standing on furniture, but it should be safe from my two little boys...

Apparently not. When I came home from work on Friday night I found the Vega in its "safe" location...

although it was upside down and covered in yoghurty-fingerprints! The red battery-low light was blinking,

though the device was off. A quick confirmation from the wife, 'Vega has not been used today'.. hmmm.

Gave the device a wipe-down, tried to power on - nada, nothing, bupkis. In goes the charger, try again..

Backlight on -> Booting message -> Advent boot logo -> Backlight off -> Advent boot logo disappears

-> Advent boot logo re-appears, Backlight still off -> Advent boot logo disappears.. and then re-appears,

and then disappears and so on and so forth. The Backlight still stays off. Ruh-oh... starting to wish I'd taken

that backup I'd been meaning to for ages now!!

I tried all manner of things to get it working without reflashing, no joy. Downloaded the 1.08 image from

myadventvega and mostly followed the instructions for a full reload... could not for the life of me get the

Vega into it's recovery mode (from off -> hold Back for 2s, still holding Back now hold Power for 2s, let go

of Power and continue holding Back for another 2s)... turns out that even with a full battery, the power

cable must be plugged in!! Got 1.08 installed with no mess or fuss, then applied MCR R6 with PP and small

task bar, calibrated touch screen and very impressed with how quickly my wireless now connects

(as opposed to all previous versions).. however, majorly annoying screen artifacts everywhere. So, wiped the

device back to clean 1.08, installed MCR R6 with small task bar (No PP), and then followed up with MCK R2...

Niiiiiiice! Everything is absolutely sweet. (I love this forum - Vega/Android would be a heckuvalot less enjoyable for me

without all of you and your contributions!)

Now, just to find a NEW safe place for the Vega when I'm at work!!

P.S. As if the yoghurty-fingerprints weren't enough of a give-away as to who the original culprit was, turns

out that he left video and photographic evidence of himself saved to the SD card shortly before bricking the device!

Classic.

P.P.S. Ahem, have also taken a backup now, just in case ;)

That is pretty funny, kids can get anywhere nothing is safe. Worst kid I have ever known was my little sister she could climb anything she would just suddenly appear on top of counters, tables, trees and she even attempted the garage once a book case would have been nothing. PS Come to think of it she is 18 now and she still does things like that so you better hope its just a phase.

Best advice is hide it as something else, I am thinking of making a big hollow book to hide mine in. Going to stop by a second hand book/charity shop to try and find something that will work for it as all the books I have that are big enough I am quite fond of and cost a fair bit.

We have a bedside cabinet with a lockable drawer. It's a win-win solution. Either they can't get in or they're already on course for a lucrative career as a locksmith. ;)

At least you managed to get incriminating photos... in this house no one never touched nuffink... we must have the worst pixie infestation this side of never never land... the meddling so and so's are always breaking or changing something without a single person in the house seeing anything ;)

Yeah, I blame us too - I should never have encouraged my son to use the Vega, proving impossible to keep away from him now!

...might need to get another... Vega, that is.

You and me both! Still, good experience, learned a few things along the way - all's well that ends well.

Well, I can accept he gets his climbing skills from me - even today I find it irresistable to shoot up a good tree and poke around the top... man-monkey? monkey-man?

Love the idea about a secret book cover.. reminds me of a long-lost favourite pub off Oxford Street that used to have the toilets behind a fake bookcase, pull the right book

and the bookcase opens to reveal the entrance to the toilets.. classic. Beer may have made it more amusing at the time.

Tried that once before with other items.. wife lost the key, I had to break the drawer.. probably not a good idea to try again, though I wish I could!

I know! A couple of short vids and a ton of photos - all taken about an hour before I came home from work, hilarious. At least I knew the time-frame of the crime!
