Guest feeta Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 Hi Everyone, I'm interested to find out what you guys are running on your Vega's. Anyone on stock rom's or are most people running custom roms with Paul's Kernel etc? any apps you've found which are worth a look at? I'll start off...I've only just got my Vega but I'm running the Modaco Custom Kernel R2, Modaco Custom Rom R6 and have just installed the Notion Ink apps to have a play with. ;)

Guest warriorscot Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 1.08 w/ MCR R2 and R6 without PP and clockwork. The NI apps are all pretty good the only one that I haven't used is the browser but just because I can't be bothered going to the trouble of installing it with adb so it doesn't get reset to the stock every boot up. The mail app is by far the best app its great for tablet just what I think most of us have been wanting for a while and best of all it's not google dependant. Other than that 90% of my time is spend with the Dolphin HD app for browsing or Adobe reader for pdfs and poweramp for music as its still the only bug free player on the vega. Other than that I occasionally use aldiko for book but I do have an actual reader so not that often and gmote for watching videos.

Guest armdroid Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 I'm running: AOSP 2.3 CM7-a1 Advent Vega. gapps-gb-tegra-20110118-signed.zip (mainly to fix Market crash). pulse, transdroid, angry birds. I need 2.3 as I'm working on NDK development stuff and 2.3 brings improvements for native sound programming and debugging; awaiting my first BSOD (I'll try formatting the misc partition if and when that happens), but so far so good.
Guest surly cat Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 Three apps every user SHOULD be running on their Vega: My Fake Location (for Latitude, Maps, Navigation, Places, etc.) Task Switcher (enables multi-tasking) Wi-Fi Status Bar Switch (best Wi-Fi on/off toggle) The Vega really is incomplete without these three essential apps -- they ought to come pre-installed on every unit.

Don't suppose you know how to change the behaviour of the home buttons so it triggers task switcher do you?

Guest DaveSk Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 Home switcher for froyo on the market Cheers!
Guest surly cat Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 (edited) I used to use Home Switcher for Froyo (before I switched to using ADW Launcher exclusively), and it's a great app. You can choose Task Switcher's default home app (and change its settings) by going into the App Launcher and tapping the Task Switcher icon once, then Menu in the Notification Bar. When using Task Switcher, it's best to configure the Vega's power button in Spare Parts ('End button behavior'). I would recommend selecting 'Home, then sleep', which does the following: Press the power button once -- starts Task Switcher (and shows the Notification Bar, if hidden). Press it again -- screen darkens (sleep). Press and hold for 2-3 seconds -- Device Options menu. Press and hold for 4 seconds -- power off. Edited January 30, 2011 by surly cat

Guest newbe5 Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 Just a note for those who are using task switchers, I've tried about 8 of them, and I finally settled on MultiTask Manager. Ignore the fact that its kinda ugly on initial install, if you remove the backgrounds and set it to "Fancy" style, it looks brilliant. When you press home it whips up a very attractive OSX-esque launcher, from which you can switch between running tasks, kill tasks, launch recently killed ones and also you can add apps to a favourites list for fast access. I use this all the time now, it's been like a holy grail for me on the Vega ;) Zeb
Guest matf Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 I was running 1.08 with r6 (no PP) and MCK Kernel. That was returning a quadrant score of 2380. However, while I thought cifs support was incredibly useful, I found that the vega felt really sluggish and tbh, frustrating to use. So this evening I have returned to 1.065 with r6 + PP. It returns a quadrant score of only 2199 (that's what 10% less?), but it flies and is a joy to use again. Plus the USB switching is a major plus for me. Be interested to hear from people running other combos (e.g. 1.08 + r6 and the other variants) to get their thoughts. Appreciate it's a subjective thing. I'm quite tempted to go to 1.08 +r6 + PP but I think I've played about enough for one weekend... P.S. My intention is not in any way to diss Paul's marvellous work! I wouldn't love my Vega half so much if it wasn't for his efforts.
Guest feeta Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 Lots of useful info here, thanks very much. In terms of launchers, did you guys find the stock launcher is pretty sluggish? What alternatives are you running? I'm using Launcher Pro and it seems much better! ;)
