Guest surly cat Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 (edited) I frequently get the following error message when trying to copy files from my Windows XP PC to my Vega using the USB cable: 'Cannot copy ___: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.' (Where ___ is the name of the file) I'll drag and drop a file to the Vega (or copy-paste it), the copy progress bar starts to fill and reaches a percentage at which it stops, then a few moments pass before the message above appears, and the Vega window closes as the Vega disconnects. This almost always happens for larger files (about 60MB and above) and multiple files of about 100+, but also happens (less frequently) for small, individual files! I can usually get the file to transfer with enough persistence, i.e. turning the USB back on and trying again, but it's very annoying! Does anyone else get this error? I'm currently using MCR R6, but I had the same problem with earlier releases. UPDATE -- I haven't had this problem since I upgraded to a Class 6 microSDHC (many months ago), so it's my conclusion that the pack-in memory card is too slow for USB transfers. If so then I would suggest you share the folder/s containing the files you wish to transfer and then install the app called Astro File Manager & Astro SMB Module on the Vega and you will be able to share/copy files wirelessly by wi-fi from your PC to the Vega thereafter. I use this method as do a number of other members as it's so much easier that messing about connecting via USB ;)
Guest zakblood Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 i found it quicker to just take out the cards (as i have the 4gb one that came with it, and 2x16gb ones and also a a few others that i had hanging around) just got myself a usb micro sd card stick ie thumb drive which i just pop the card into then place the stick into any usb port, it reads alot quicker, dont have to do much at all with it then, alot faster than wifi or lead plus very simple to do, plus the thumb stick only cost under £3.00 from amazon ;)
