Guest trevor432990 Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 Apologies for starting a new post but I thought you might be interested in seeing a video I've just downloaded to YouTube which demonstrates how you can use the Vega for navigation in conjunction with a Wayfinder GPS Receiver + some apps detailed in the main post. You can see the video here ... sorry there is no commentary but I think you will see that it does demonstrate the power of the Vega for this sort of application. If you are interested in trying this for yourself then I'd refer you back to my original post here. Cheers ;)

Going to give it a go in the car tomorrow, will report back. Would like to investigate car charger for Vega however. Any Ideas Thanks Steve

One thing to remember 'before' you go on your trip tomorrow it might be best to program your route into the Vega at home as apparently Google Maps (latest release) will cache the route on the Vega so it should mean less internet feeds and smoother instructions. Will be very interested to hear how you got on.

If you search this forum i have added a link to it, sorry i cant direct you there at the minute as on my fone. It will be on one of the gps threads. Works a treat, and can charge thew gps unit and mobile from the same charger ;)

Guest stevesilk51 Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 Hi Trevor, Finally got around to "test driving" the GPS. Went smoothly, worked very well. Your tip to cache route over wifi at home first is a must do. So to outline how I went about it: Used all your suggested settings but for some reason NMEA was greyed out but didn't need it ? Bluetooth GPS reciever used : "BlueNext" (BN-901S) Picked up stable signal really fast Software: BT GPS Provider and Car Home Navigation I did change the stock voice to SVOX English Female Voice, much more acceptable, for me anyhow. The biggest problem is where to put the Vega for safety whilst driving! - may look at an ipad car mount, but I am sure I am only going to use Vega GPS for long trips. Regards Steve
Guest trevor432990 Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 Nice one Steve pleased to hear it works well out on the road. I guess car mounting a screen of this size will always be an issue but maybe someone will come up with a sensible solution in due course. Wonder if you put it flat upright on dash if it would act as a heads-up display on the windscreen without being too distracting? ;)

Guest Sanddancer75 Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 Nice video, I wish I could try it out for myself but I've somehow lost my GPS receiver!?
Guest trevor432990 Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 Nice video, I wish I could try it out for myself but I've somehow lost my GPS receiver!? Oh dear ... well only a fiver to buy a new one ;)
Guest Sanddancer75 Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 Oh dear ... well only a fiver to buy a new one ;) Yeah, but Sod's law says that if I buy another one then I'll find it. I've not given up yet.
Guest Touch Graphite Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 HUD from a Vega, now theres a thought A thought that's shortlived. All European windscreens are laminated, unlike American which are tempered. This means a double layered reflection through the 2 panes of glass, unless you plan on sticking up a 10'' HUD anti reflective sticker in your field of view. Already tried it. Damn American products.

Guest McSpoon Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 This is completely off-topic but you just reminded me of Pioneer's prototype Android HUD which looks awesome. I want one! In other news, the resistive 7" version of the Vega will be available as a car headrest entertainment system. Presumably that too could benefit from your GPS navigation setup. http://ces.cnet.com/8301-32254_1-20027710-283.html
