(Sense | Android 2.2 (Froyo) | Stable DATA2SD | ext4 | Official 2.29.405 WWE | Stock rooted Desire Rom | Multilanguage )

Current Version: StarBurst 1.2.0 (All system apps are completely updated to date)

Partition Required: FAT32 followed by ext4

Base Software: 2.29.405 WWE

Editions:

Standard (with third party apps and few customizations like additional keyboards.

Lite (Completely Stock, with updated system applications and features like VPN support etc)

The main feature of this pure HTC Sense Rom is the stable Data2SD that is built in

In case you didnt already know, the Desire's Internal memory is severely limited (A maximum of 147 MB. Within no time, you will be asked to remove your favoite apps to clear space. Earlier implementations like A2SD, App2SD+ are all imperfect, and everything will never be moved. Even MTD partitions are limited.

With Data2SD, you decide the amount of Internal memory you want!

As a side effect, you get faster I/O too, since Sd is faster than Nand. the real world performance depends on the Class of your card. The faster the better!

This rom is based on Sibere’s Data2sd scripts, which with the latest ext4 based script, is arguably one of the best of the lot. Other than this, the Rom has been kept stock, with the base rom 2.29.405.5. It is for those who want the HTC Sense Rom, but are tired of the low disk space warnings thrown at them! Of course, important mods like the Restart menu, Supercircle battery mod (@UOT) etc are available.

Contrary to prior Data2SD scripts which were infamous for their boot loops and force closes, this latest script has been rigorously tested and developed into a stable product by Sibere. To date, I havent had a single force close or boot loop yet on this Data2SD configuration

I know there are a lot of Stock rooted roms out there, but this one supports Data2Sd best, mostly because it’s been built for the sole purpose of giving a problem free Data2sd experience.

Requirements:

* Partitions-First one should be Fat32 primary, and the second ext4 Primary (Gparted LiveCD recommended)

* Wipe recommended on first install [Only scenario where it is not required is when you were already on Sibere's ext4 Data2Sd on another Sense Rom]. (If you're reinstalling my rom again, you dont need a wipe)

* A Class 4 or above SD card is recommended for Data2sd. If you use Class 2, you may notice a perceptible lag.

Instructions:

Installation for the first time:

1. Full Wipe is necessary when installing for the first time (Backup your data in both recovery and Titanium before installing)

2. Partition your sd card into two partitions-The First is Fat32, and the second should be ext4 (For Data2SD) [Ext4 is needed]

3. Install the Rom zip from recovery

4. Boot once, allow system to stabilize. At this point you will be having a simple Non A2SD, Non Data2SD setup

5. Reboot into recovery once more, run the Data2sdInstaller.zip

6. Reboot into your system and enjoy the stablest Data2SD experience ever

Reinstallation after reflashing the rom for any purpose like removing system apps and widgets:

This should be done only if you have run the Data2SD installer zip at least once previously and havent wiped your sd-ext after that

1. Flash the base rom after removing any apps/widgets you dont want (Removing system apps is always tricky with any Sense rom and may cause boot loops/force closes of its own)

2. Immediately after flashing the rom, install the Reinstaller zip. (Note that this this is to be done immediately after flashing the main rom and not after a reboot)

Note: Turn signature verification off in Recovery menu before running the installer script. Caution: Avoid pulling the battery while the system is running. Data2sd saves everything safely at shutdown, so such unexpected reboot can lead to Data loss.

Credits:

1. Sibere for the Data2SD

2. Firerat for teaching me basics of the update-script which paved the way for development of the flashable zip for Data2SD

3. Neophyte/Leedroid/snq for the current Kernel; RichardTrip for the previous Kernel(s);

4. dsixda for the Android Kitchen

5. Alex-V for patiently answering my every question on Rom development.

6. The UOT Kitchen for adding support for this Rom from the first day it was released!

7. Shipped Roms for the RUUs leaked from HTC

8. Ownhere for the patched libsqlite

Note: Turn signature verification off in Recovery menu before running the installer script. (If you dont know how, see this)

From v1.1.4, the entire Rom and the Data2sd packages are coded in Edify. So you can flash it even in the latest version of Clockworkmod Recovery

The latest StarBurst ROM and addons are available on the MiniSite

Main Rom - Lite Edition This edition is kept completely stock. No third-party apps at all. No customizations. Installation is exactly like that of the Standard Rom installation

Added:

Open VPN support (No app added for OpenVPN)

Adobe Flash update

Main Rom - Standard Edition

This version includes the Lite edition plus some apps which most people consider essential, like Astro File Manager, Titanium and MyBackup Root edition, QuickAppRemover.

Flash the Rom first. Boot into the system. At this stage, you have a stock Froyo based Rom. Now reboot into recovery once again to install the Data2Sd installer zip. If you're upgrading, install the Rom in recovery and the Data2SDReinstaller without rebooting in betweem.

Check that you downloaded the right file by comparing with the MD5 file:

MD5 for each file is attached in this post. Open it any text editor and verify the file integrity before installing them!

Data2Sd installer

Once you have booted into Android OS once after the installation of the main rom, you should reboot to recovery and install this package. This will add Data2SD support to the base Rom.

Data2Sd Re-Installer

If you ever reflash the Rom alone after the Data2SD is installed, some essential libraries required by Data2SD is lost. To restore them, flash the Rom in Recovery, followed immediately thereafter by the Re-Installer.

Optional Mods

System App Remover Utility

(Removes Friendstream, Facebook, Teeter, Twitter etc from the Rom. Simple flashable utility. Download it here. Flash it any time you want. If you want to keep some apps out of these, go to /scripts/remover.sh and remove the line corresponding to the app you want to keep.

The list of apps/widgets which the utility removes by default can be found here.

Third Party App Remover Utility

Removes the additional apps and widgets including Adfree, TitaniumBackup, MyBackup Root, Astro, Explorer, Gmail Unread Count Widget, and SMS Unread count widget that come installed with the Rom on first install. Thus after running this program, you get a clean HTC Sense setup, but with the advantages of the latest Market update and the updates for all HTC/Google apps. Requested and added on the same day. Download here

Supercircle battery mod [From the UOT Kitchen]

This is just one of the mods. Visit the UOT Kitchen to make your own. Since the Rom is fully supported by the kitchen, just choose StarBurst from the dropdown list after selecting your customizations. Note that changing the framework may cause problems between other mods, or system package installations. To revert, just flash the Rom followed by the Data2SD Reinstaller without a reboot.

Updates/Patches

All patches released to date have been integrated into the latest Rom.

Updates/Patches

Updates/Patches

Note: This Rom is now directly supported by the UOT Kitchen. To modify the theme as you see fit, visit the awesome UOT Kitchen and choose your theme. At the last step, choose Starburst Rom from the dropdown list. That's it! Thanks, UOT and mendozinas. (For the kind notice of the UOT Kitchen devs: All StarBurst Rom versions share the same framework-res.apk

I havent included any theme in this Rom because I dont believe in radically modifying the looks of a Rom until it may be unpleasant to some. A lot of themes are available for Sense, if you look in the Theming section of XDA. Most are flashable directly. Also, being a fully deodexed rom, theming/moding is easily done

Addon Kernels compatible with StarBurst

Statutory Warning: Using any Overclocked/Undervolted kernel may cause reboots of the phone without warning. If reboot occurs on a Data2SD based configuration, there may be potential loss of Data with permanent boot loops (which may be fixable only by a Nandroid restore to a working configuration/complete reinstall). So do a complete Nandroid backup before any kernel modification/flashing or changing your CPU frequencies.

Installation of Kernels

This is similiar to flashing a Rom through Recovery. Just install the Rom and Data2SD patcher before flashing the kernel zip. Undervolted kernels usually provide better battery life. But if you undervolt/overclock too much, your phone might become unstable and reboot. This can potentially cause Data2SD damage and bootloops may result. So, take Nandroid and monitor system stability. If it becomes unstable, always revert back. Please don't post bug reports in the thread if you use a different kernel than what is included in StarBurst by default. If you do mention a bootloop, take care to mention what kernel you were using.

NeoPhyTe.x360's Kernel 2.6.32.28-Halcyon-

Neophyte has warmly given permission to use his kernel in StarBurst. Thanks, Neo! Neo's thread on AuraxTsense ROM is here

About other mods

Note that this Rom already includes most kernel mods needed for performance/battery. If you still like some other mods published for the stock rom, drop a post in the thread. Advanced theming for the mod can be done in the UOT Kitchen.

I didn’t want users to worry about installing other mods, and wanted a No-Nonsense installation (pun intended ). Install the base rom and the data2sd installer. That’s all you need! And you get everything that other roms provide.

About Installing other Kernels

Most kernels which support Stock Sense 2.29.405 should work on this. Work with your kernel dev and see if it supports 2.29.405.

Links to Additional Stuff (Addons) - Usually unnecessary

Radios

Latest radio (Recommended, but by no means essential, unless your radio is very, very old. Flashing radios is a risky thing with the potential of permanently bricking your phone)

Known Issues

Minor issue: snq power menu Bootloader option doesn't work, Minor issue: Flashing the latest Rom somehow doesnt add the included third party apps.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS:

Note that the order and time at which you flash the Rom, Data2SD installer and Reinstaller is important.

Step-by-Step method of Installation

1. First Step: Reboot into Recovery Right now and Backup your Nandroid. Optionally and if you have these softwares, do in addition a backup from Titanium Backup and MyBackupPro

2. Second Step: Copy the entire contents of your MicroSD card, including specifically the folders Clockworkmod, TitaniumBackup and Rerware to a safe location on your PC; depending on whether you do/dont have Titanium backup and MyBackupPro installed.

3. You cannot install this ROM on top of your existing ROM. A complete delete of partitions followed by repartitioning is required. If you already have a Fat32 followed by an ext4, you can try installing as per above instructions. But if there are some issues, do the repartitioning to fix it.

4. Partitioning: Boot up the Gparted LiveCD

5. Choose your MicroSD card reader device, select each partition and delete each.

6. Then hit "Apply changes"

7. Then create the fat32 partition first as fat32 primary, Leave space unallocated at the end to create the ext4-Choose how much space you want as ext4, and leave this space at the end unallocated. The total amount of space in your card minus the amount you choose for your data in ext4, is what you type in as size for the fat32

8. Now create ext4 parition

9. Apply changes

10. Copy both zips (rom, data2sdinstaller or data2sdreinstaller as the case may be) to the fat32, boot up clockwork

11. Do a Complete Nandroid Wipe (That is, choose the wipe data/factory reset option)

12. Install rom.

13. If you are installing Starburst for the first time, after installing the Rom you have to boot to Android first, choose language and other options. Then right after that without downloading any applications or using the Market, you have to enter Recovery once again and install the Data2SD Installer

14. If were already StarBurst previously and just want to update, just boot to Recovery, and Backup your Nandroid. Then install the Rom zip first. Without rebooting, apply the Data2SDReinstaller. Now boot to Android to use updated StarBurst

Really really nice!!! Thx to the devs :)

Since the general response on Modaco was poor, I never updated my OP.

StarBurst is now in version 1.3.2 (beta is 1.3.3) and has quite a popular following at XDA.

Even if the OP is not updated, you can always find the latest version at its dedicated minisite: http://starburstrom.wordpress.com/

Thanks, pavan, for the welcome..

I think you're doing something wrong ...

I updated to 1.3.0 in the morning and do not have any problems with it...it is faster than Modaco has ever been...

and for the short while I'm testing it now there are no issues yet...maybe you should got to XDA for help...or use the mini site...

I always have one hell of a time getting my phone to wake up with this ROM. Not sure what I'm even doing wrong with it.

Usually this is an error in installation, when the formatting of partitions is not done properly. We can find out only if you fill out the required form available on the site. See http://starburstrom.wordpress.com/starburs...roubleshooting/

You need a minimum of Class 4 card to run it without lags..
