Guest trevor432990 Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 Hello all! My first post and i'll make it a quick one. Is there an easy way of making the notification bar transparant? Hi there and welcome ... not sure there's an easy way of doing this otherwise Paul would've probably done this by now. I have read some articles that suggest it might be possible but personally I can live with the narrower notification bar for now. Wait and see if Paul wants to comment ;)
Guest Sanddancer75 Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 (edited) If you just don't like looking at it you can hide it with ADW Launcher EX. EDIT - Be warned, this will hide your menu button by the way. Edited January 31, 2011 by Sanddancer75
Guest oldmester Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 Thank's for the replies. I know about hiding the bar and the problems it can cause. I have read on other forums, for other devices, that it can be done but these all look a little involved for me at this stage. This is my first Android device.
Guest Sanddancer75 Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 I know about hiding the bar and the problems it can cause. So do I now after trying out my suggestion. ;)
Guest kmikhaylov Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 Should be possible as on my glalaxy s darky (ROM maker) made it transparent it just depends on if anyone can be bothered to do it
Guest wipeout140 Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 (edited) You should be able to, but you will need to modify the framework-res.apk then push the modified apk file to your vega Edited February 2, 2011 by wipeout140
Guest mattlokes Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 I was intrigued by the idea of a transparent notification bar too which is why I have had a go at doing it! At the moment It is working except for there is a line of shadow that i need to remove and also the icons need changing slightly as well with a white background like mine i can not see the icons ;) Ill post a screenshot in a few mins!! Matt
Guest oldmester Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 I'm still grtting to grips with how android works. After years of windows it's taking some getting used to so messing around with .apk files is a bit beyond me at the minute. Unless some one can post a step by step that is ;) ;)

Guest mattlokes Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 oooo its a bit more tricky than i thought, only works if you have a live wallpaper at the moment!

Guest mattlokes Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 Well I managed to make the notification bar transparent but it led to some simple GUI issues. Firstly it only works with a live wallpaper as if you apply a normal wallpaper the Vega only applies it to where the notification bar is not, I'm aware this is fixable in one of the layout xmls but i cant decompile and fiddle as APK Manager does not want to recompile. If anyone has any advice on how to edit the android binary xmls I would love to hear it! Also depending on your live wallpaper will depend on how visible the icons are, as a default the icons are mostly white which makes them become invisible on my mainly white live wallpaper so for the screen shot below I have edited the icons to make them more visible! Tell me what you guys think!? If you want a step by step for the work I have done I can post that too but it is in no way a permanent mod yet.
Guest Sir Gash Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 Tell me what you guys think!? If you want a step by step for the work I have done I can post that too but it is in no way a permanent mod yet. That would be great thanks. I was thinking of making a semi-transparent bar rather than fully transparent. Cheers
Guest mattlokes Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 That would be great thanks. I was thinking of making a semi-transparent bar rather than fully transparent. Cheers Cool im just fiddling around with the apks xml now as i have apk manager working so I will post up the instructions when I'm done! Also the semi-transparent bar idea is great ill have a go with that as well. Matt

Cheers OK So I managed to fix the fact that my clock and battery percentage is white and cannot be seen on my live wallpaper and also can now do semitransparent bars as shown by the following screenshot! Just got to sort out how to fixe normal wallpapers then i will write a guide! Anything you guys would like to see? Edited February 3, 2011 by mattlokes

Guest mattlokes Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 Looks great and I look forward to the guide. What wallpaper is that? Hey its a live wallpaper called Bezier - Live Wallpaper, took me a while to set it up how i like it but it flows really nicely all the time, changing colours ;) works far far better on my Vega than my Desire. Guide shall be ready soon, just making finishing touches to some standard packs for those that don't want to fiddle with the apks and .jars. Matt
