Guest BarryH Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 Please excuse the ignorance, but how do I get onto the Internet? The SF/Blade is the first mobile I've had with the capability of connecting to the net but I'm lost. I've clicked on the Internet app on the phone but I can't find any sites once I "think" I'm on the net browsing. Any help would be much appreciated.
Guest Rotmann Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 Reading the manual can make wonders you know. There are two options to go on the internet, wi-fi from your router which does not cost you anything (just like browsing with your laptop or PC) and mobile internet which costs and is dependent on your data package, operator and so on.

Sorry Rotmann, not trying to get shortcuts, I've been playing with the S/F for the last two days trying to get on the net. The manual doesn't seem to help and nothing in the searches seem to show the problem. When I tap the internet app, I get a little box with the wording No Network Connection - Browser cannot load this page because there is no internet connection. I mainly want the net when I'm away from home, so it'll be the mobile internet I need. Edited January 31, 2011 by BarryH
Guest Rotmann Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 (edited) If you have a wireless router at home you can try to enable wi-fi from settings-wireless and connect to it while at home. Disable it when you don't use it anymore as it eats battery pretty fast. You can put a widget on a home screen to enable and disable things fast. For mobile internet you will have to get a data package from your operator. Which one do you use? Contract or PAYG? Edited January 31, 2011 by Rotmann

Guest WindyMiller Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 Have you set up your phone to connect to the internet through your phone provider? Settings>Wirless & Network>Access Point Name> If none there, google your provide and manual key in the 3G connection. Hope that helps, if I'm reading your post right.

When I get to that point, there is a green light against "Orange Internet"
Guest Rotmann Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 Also check what data plan you have and how much it costs, maybe it is not activated. Orange is not brilliant as a mobile data provider, here is a thread on this.
Guest BarryH Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 I'm on the "Dolphin" package which shows Free Internet. Not sure how much the "Free" means. I just went with Orange as others in my family use it and I thought it would be cheaper if I needed to call them. Looking at the link, probably not the best way to go.
Guest Rotmann Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 I am from Germany and don't know that, but I think orange gives you 100 or 300MB, don't know if it's enough for you.
Guest WindyMiller Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 When I get to that point, there is a green light against "Orange Internet" Dp you have the 3G icon on the top with the up and down arrows moving? If not dial 150 and pick option for phone not working and get them to resend wap setting to your phone, hopefully that should do the trick.
Guest SWOriginal Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 SETTINGS> WIRELESS & NETWORK> MOBILE NETWORKS> Tick "data connection" & " data roaming"
Guest Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 Tick "data connection" & " data roaming" Data while roaming is probably not a good idea, as it will surely not be covered by whatever amount of free data Orange gives him.
Guest BarryH Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 SETTINGS> WIRELESS & NETWORK> MOBILE NETWORKS> Tick "data connection" & " data roaming" Many thanks for the help everyone, I found that "Data Connection" had no tick at the side of it. All up and working now. The first time I got on the net, I checked my credit and noticed it had dropped by £2.00. But all the rest of the times I connected, it stayed the same. So it looks like the £2.00 Max per day is the norm with Orange. I thought I was on the Dolphin package but my Orange account show as Monkey. Anyone know if it's worth moving up to the Dolphin package where it shows Free Internet?
Guest Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 (edited) Depends on the amount of data included, the price for that and any other differences (call rates, ...) with "Dolphin". If you only use 3G data once or twice a month, the 2£ day flat with "Monkey" is probably the easier and cheaper way to go. Just compare the price lists of "Dolphin" and "Monkey" (strange names!).
