San Francisco not recognizing any SIM card

My TFT San Francisco running RSL9 Japanese Jellfish isn't recognizing my SIM, or any other SIM. I've tried taking the SIM card out and putting it back in multiple times but it doesn't seem to do anything. Both phone reception and mobile internet failed.

Has anyone had this problem on this ROM or any other ROM? Thanks.

Edit: Currently trying out a different rom in the hope it will fix the problem. It's quite worrying as it was working perfectly fine yesterday and hasn't left my room.

Double edit: I spent 10 minutes cleaning up both the SIM and phone and it has started to work again. I have a nasty feeling that this "fix" won't be permanent at all.

Using a different ROM didn't fix the problem. This is looking more like a hardware issue - damnit.

Does anyone have any suggestions for cleaning the SIM card reader? It's a pretty awkward design to get a clear look at.

Get some isopropyl alcohol from the next pharmacy , soak a cotton bud with it and carefully clean the contacts in the phone as well as on the SIM. Let all remaining alcohol evaporate bevor putting everything together again.

EDIT: Oh wait ... can you actually get to the contacts in the phone? Not willing to rip mine apart for taking a look.

Try putting some clear tape (multiple layers if needed) on the back of the sim to apply a little more pressure on the contacts.

This may not be related, but I think it may be worth mentioning.

Something similar happened to me a few days ago booting just after installing JellyFish. The phone would give SIM card error (no SIM card installed) even though there was one inserted. I realised that the phone had been plugged into my laptop via the USB cable during the whole process as it was being charged.

I tried disconnecting the USB cable and voilá! the SIM card was recognised again.

Mates phone is doing the same only its never been rooted or had any roms on it.It still has the original Orange junk.

He got the unlock code for it but when he tried a voda sim it just went straight to the home screen with the message "No Sim Installed"

It doesnt even work with the original Orange sim.It was bought 2nd hand and worked ok on Orange but since trying another sim none are working.

Any ideas apart from taking it back to Argos or Orange shop ?
