Guest warriorscot Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 I've posted this a few times to the forum in the filesharing threads. Its a good app it's nice to see it on appbrain and not just on an obscure sourceforge page that has since gone missing. You have to watch out though, as great as it is it doesn't half love to eat power.
Guest terminaljunkie Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 (edited) Oops sorry. Just saw it and loaded to test. Thanks for the power drain tip - use & disable then. Edited February 1, 2011 by terminaljunkie
Guest trevor432990 Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 (edited) Does Samba just do it one way i.e. PC can see Vega SD Card or can it (if you've already given permissions) let the Vega see folders/files on the PC ? Only I use ASTRO Filemanager with SMB module to enable the Vega to see some PC folders I've shared so if this does it both that would be great or if it doesn't do you know any app that does yet? ;) Edited February 1, 2011 by trevor432990

There are a couple of other ways but honestly I don't think you are going to have it work any better than what you are doing now if you have Astro with the SMB module. Even if you could get it to mount the shares it would look almost the same in Astro as it does with the SMB module which does the same thing and Astro is about as good as an android file manager gets. Samba filesharing app makes a nice addition to Astro with the SMB module so you can access the Vega from your PC I really wouldn't want to mess with what is a working setup which is also how I do it as well.

OK thanks I shall probably install Samba later then ;)
Guest zzleezz Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 Tried this today on my Vega and HTC desire. Copying files from both devices simultaneously to my desktop. Superb tool :-) Now I'm wondering if I will be able to see the desire from the Vega...... Gonna go test.
Guest carl rose Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 SAMBA for Android shares your SDCARD http ://lifehacker.com/5747993/samba-filesh...ard-over-wi+fi Works really well :-) This is brilliant, many thanks mate
Guest warriorscot Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 If the desire is running a samba server it should work as long as you have the right credentials.
Guest zzleezz Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 If the desire is running a samba server it should work as long as you have the right credentials. Desire running samba server fine, can see it from desktop. Can see it in Estrongs from the vega too but cant get past the login, wont accept the username and password. Might try changing them to something simpler to negate any bad typing/thickness im introducing to the test ;)

Guest warriorscot Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 FTP is a pretty outdated and insecure way of moving files around, Samba is a little bit better in most respect. Kind of analagous to FAT32 and NTFS one is a lot better than the other but you still use the old clunky format because it works on everything.
Guest Touch Graphite Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 (edited) Am I completely loosing it or is this the hardest poxy app to get working!? I've tried the Samba Filesharing App and Astro File Explorer with SMB Module, and I cant see or connect to Jack! From PC to vega or vega to PC! Anyone care to explain how to bloody use these!? I'm running vista 32bit BTW. (Been here for 30 minutes now googling how to's, with nothing!) Edited February 2, 2011 by Touch Graphite
Guest warriorscot Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 The Vega end of things is pretty simple if you can view anything on either end it's usually a problem with your PC. Is it set up for file sharing with all your libraries and/or regular hard drives and folders set up for sharing. Does it work PC to PC on your network. If the network is fine and PC configured it's most likely a user error in entering the right credentials.

I'm running vista 32bit BTW. (Been here for 30 minutes now googling how to's, with nothing!) I use Vista x64 and not had a problem. However, I could only get it to work using the IP address. To work around, I simply added the following to the 'hosts' file located in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc 192.168.1.10 AdventVega Make sure you use a static IP address or use DHCP reservation on your router otherwise it will not work if the IP changes! Then you can juse create a shortcut to \\AdventVega to access the SD Card. Also, try turning off any firewalls just in case (both Windows and DroidWall if you use it).
Guest Touch Graphite Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 (edited) Sorry to go on as rant about this but its got to be the worst app for lack of instructions/screenshots and troubleshooting. Just sticking with Samba Filesharing app, it churns out a 192.168.0.5 I.P. Chucking that into a web browser comes back with a generic error. What else am I to do with that number? In vista, file sharing is turned on. Both are on the same wifi network (I have 2 wifi networks on my router) Then you can juse create a shortcut to \\AdventVega to access the SD Card. How do you do that? Edited February 2, 2011 by Touch Graphite

I'm kinda with you one this one - installed the app, tried to connect from PC but nothing. Disabled firewall....nothing.
Guest warriorscot Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 It's a pretty simple app its just a server with two settings on and off. You only need to configure the settings the very first time you set it up and if you have already set up a home network its simple stuff you will have done before like usernames, passwords, computer names etc.

First of all, just open My Computer and in the address bar type in: \\192.168.0.5 If you have a no network problems and Samba is running and configured (you MUST specify a password) then you should see a login prompt, login and double click on SDCard to view your files. Let us know how you get on
Guest MaxiP Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 I start Samba on Vega, configure username & password to be name / pass, disable stop & restart samba. App starts OK and if I enable sharing, it tells me 'Enabled - Running' but if I try and connect to either the IP address (\\192.168.1.7) or NetBIOS name (\\VEGA), it can't find the share. HOWEVER if I run the beast of burden called Internet Explorer (rather than FireFox), it works !! If I change the FireFox render engine (using IR Tab Plus addon), it also works so whilst I can now connect, need to tweak Firefox to automatically switch rendering engine when connecting. edit - didn't connect 2nd time but this may be due to cached credentials so will try again after a PC reboot

Also doesnt through firefox (which I only use for FTPing). Only works through I.E. Cheers butty! Even managed to add a shortcut to My Computer too, which was surprisingly easier than using this app the first around!

Samba is running on the vega and everything I just can't find it on my pc. Ta all

Samba is running on the vega and everything I just can't find it on my pc. Ta all Connect your vega and your windows machine to the same WiFi network. Run Samba filesharing app, enable it and then it should display an I.P on the mainstream, similar to 192.168.x.x Type that number without http:// into your browser and then it should show a pop-up asking for login details. As I said, use Internet Explorer as it didn't work with chrome browser. If that doesn't work, post up your OS type and what does/doesn't happen.
