Guest BeingScared Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 Hey there. I'm curious as to which version we should use? The ARMV6 VFP or ARMV6? Thanks.

Guest Areyouscaredyet Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 armV6vfp the other doesn't work Ah, I tried V6 first, it worked, I tried vfp and it still works. I'll use the vfp though. Thanks. ;)
Guest SqueakyG Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 (edited) Hi, I have some questions/issues with RockPlayer: I'm on JJ9, no hardware acceleration or overclocking or anything like that. I just tried RockPlayer_ARMv6vfp_1_5.5.5 because everyone seems to say that that's the version that works, and later versions don't work. Is this correct? Why do people say that? I tried playing every type of video I have, and nearly all of them were totally disappointing: Xvid/mp3: The only one that worked, and even that had a couple of slowdowns. H.264/mp3: Audio okay, video in slow-motion H.264/AAC: Audio okay, video in slow-motion (but played almost well in stock Videos app, natch) MKV: Audio okay, video in slow motion. WMV: Crashed. So I'm disappointed. I also don't know what the choice between hardware and software decoding meant. Most of my test videos would not work with hardware decoding, and the one that did (xvid) wasn't improved. Any help, or is that the best to expect? Should I install the latest version? Why do people say 1.5.5 is the one that works? I take it the "vfp" version is supposed to work best for the SanFran's processor? Am I supposed to be getting better performance with JJ RLS9? I'm not blown away by Froyo's speed improvements compared to the stock 2.1. It's my first custom ROM and I'm new to this. Angry Birds still lags badly on some levels, and now video proves to be useless. Edited February 1, 2011 by SqueakyG
Guest Areyouscaredyet Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 Hmm, Squeaky, as far as I remember Video playback was significantly better with Stagefright On. Seeking was snappy, now it takes a few seconds when I jump to a different time in the video. (Using JJ9 AHB off, hw acceleration off).

I've just searched for it in this forum, and I guess I have a lot of reading ahead of me... To save me some time, can you tell me where to get it or how to enable it? Reading a complicated thread right now where people are listing lines of code, but not actually talking about what it is or where to get it. This forum is not for newbies sometimes ;) Edited February 1, 2011 by SqueakyG

Guest SqueakyG Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 you just have to edit build.prop adb pull /system/build.prop edit build.prop (lines with stagefright) adb remount adb push build.prop /system or with a files manager like root explorer Thank you, I just did that, it's good to know this stuff. However, it had no effect at all. The stagefright entries were on "false" and I set them to "true", but I noticed no difference to any videos: they all play with very slow-motion video, except for xvid which plays almost smoothly. I also checked out Angry Birds and that had no speed increase either. I'm actually wondering if there's something up with my handset. Everyone says that once you install a 2.2 ROM you see Angry Birds running totally smoothly, and there are obviously a lot of you getting fine video playback here. I notice absolutely no change to the speed or fluidity of my SanFran between the stock 2.1 and JJ 2.2. Obviously it's good to have 2.2... but I'm not getting the smoothness other people report.
Guest Phoenix Silver Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 you should try a different rom i'm using modacom one i had problems with jj9
Guest SqueakyG Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 you should try a different rom i'm using modacom one i had problems with jj9 I'm waiting for modaco r11 to be released prebake. I find it weird that the available prebake is so many release numbers behind, it makes me not want to try it. (Not willing to pay for kitchen, apologies if that seems rude... I appreciate the hard work of the people who make these ROMs, but I just don't spend money online.)
Guest godsakes Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 rockplayer works pretty well for me but i'm using JJ RS5 and i've overclocked to 710mhz (hardware accel is on)
