Guest cleavepm Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 I've got a Vega clone running the stock ROM (1.06_2 according to the Kernel version info) and am intending to install the custom ROM and PP to make things smoother, faster and more reliable. As I believe that I'm not at the right ROM version to be able to upgrade (1.06_5 required?) I'm trying to get this done first. However, I can't even install the Win USB drivers! Running Win7 Ultimate (32 bit machine) when I link Vega & PC via USB and follow the procedure to go into recovery mode I get the pop up in Win that tells me the USB install failed - I've tried to install the drivers manually, etc. but no go. I have softwareImage_v1.06_05_Vega_Final and have made sure that all zipped files have been unzipped. Billy Gates's shonky OS ain't having any of it..... I'm sure I must be missing something obvious here but can't fathom it out. Any assistance much appreciated!
Guest cleavepm Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 OK - have downloaded the USB drivers from www.myadventvega.com and the ROM upgrade now seems to be running OK.
Guest cleavepm Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 I now have a tablet with the Advent ROM, but the touch screen doesn't want to respond to anything aaarrrggghhhhh!!!
Guest cleavepm Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 Now have that fixed by removing the mains power and rebooting.... I think I'll go away and play for a while before I bother you with this drivel any more......

Guest cleavepm Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 Care to share with us what clone it is, and was it cheaper and better than the Original Vega ? Using the word 'clone' may have been slightly misleading - it's the OEM version (P10AN01) so still a Vega really. I had all sorts of USB issues trying to upgrade but eventually managed it. I used the USBDeView tool as suggested in other threads. I got so frustrated I used it to remove all the drivers associated with the Vega and then while the unit was in debug mode plugged it into my laptop again. All of a sudden it seemed to fire the right drivers into life and I was away - very frustrating but much happier now. Have also installed a couple of the NI Adam apps but not had a chance to really try them yet.
Guest simonta Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 Hi Cleavepm. Nothing to do with Windows. The clue is "download the drivers from the Advent site" (as required in the instructions ;)). Without any other driver to use, Windows will simply install it as a USB mass storage device and recovery aint gonna work with them apples. Windows 7 works just fine - been using it from day one with Vega and not a hitch. Cheers

Had all the R6 stuff unzipped (fully) and followed the instructions implicitly - I even took a break and came back for a fresh start but it still wouldn't work. It was only when I removed the drivers using the USBDeView tool and then replugged the debug mode tablet into my lappy that things started to happen.
Guest trevor432990 Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 You may have hit the 'USB Driver Problem' which has impacted on several of our attempts to get mods input follow these instructions or your Windows 7 equivalent commands :- "First, using Windows Explorer you need to go to the folder on your PC where you unzipped the files from Pauls download pack. In that folder will be a folder called 'usbdriver' and within that, one called 'usb_driver' and it is in this sub-folder where all the drivers you need are held. If when you run the 'install-windows.bat' command as instructed nothing happens or you only get say a couple of lines of text displayed then you will need to do the following:- Go to CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM>HARDWARE>DEVICE MANAGER and if you have the Vega connected by USB (with power on) you should see some new hardware called ANDROID PHONE and/or NVIDIA HARMONY. Right click on each entry and click 'Uninstall' then go to the top of the list where it displays your computers name and right click on the entry and select 'Scan for hardware changes'. The Windows new hardware wizard will then pop-up asking if you have a driver disk or not. Say you have and browse to the folder called 'usb_driver' described above and select it. The hardware should then be installed with the correct drivers. Repeat the 'install-windows.bat' command and hopefully this time a whole list of program output should appear showing it is working and in less than a minute it should all be done and your Vega will reboot itself. Then on Vega go into SETTINGS>ABOUT DEVICE and the Kernel Version should include the text ...v1.xx.... where xx is the level you are now at i.e. 04. Note:- You may need to do the above with every new release as it seems to be the only way of updating the drivers properly unless someone else can tell us a better way"

I did get the ANDROID PHONE loaded but it failed to start - I've never seen NVIDIA HARMONY. It seems that there are still a number of scenarios that users can encounter when performing these procedures and trying to write 'if/then/else' for all of them isn't really practical I appreciate.
