Restore SMS from Nandroid backup?

Hi,

When I upgraded to Paul's 2.2 rom, I did a Nandroid backup before doing a full wipe as the instructions require.

Is it possible to restore the SMSs from the nandroid backup? Can they be extracted and prepended to the current SMSs?

Now with r8 / r11 it's saying I need to do a wipe again. What should I use in future to make restoration of SMS easier?

Yes it is possible:

To get your messages out of the nandroid you will have to restore the backup first...

So do a backup of your current rom and restore your old backup.

Now get an app called SMS Backup and Restore (free from the market). This will backup your messages to an xml file on your sd card.

Now go back to froyo (by restoring your previously made backup) and hit restore in this app.

To save your messages for further updates use the same app... I highly recommend it, it is really good!

I had previously seen on here a reccommendation for SMS backup + which backs up to gmail, unfortunately although it backs up MMS it wont restore them, SMS is fine though. It seems SMS Backup and Restore also wont deal with MMS. is there an app that does?
