Why is 1.08 so poor?

Having tried 1.08 since it was released and then 1.08 with Paul's MCK R2 kernel I have made the decision to roll back to 1.06.5 with the R6 Performance Pack.

I've noticed several problems with 1.08, notably laggyness and very poor gaming performance. X Construction, for example, would crash while waiting for the train to appear on 1.08 regardless of kernel, while on 1.06.5 the train appears instantly.

I also noticed in a couple of games, such as Angry Birds (naturally ;)), there were lines appearing on screen.

Has anyone else noticed these problems or have any suggestions as to why this may be? Is it the kernel version? Is it the build of Android?

(As a final point, I get a lower Quadrant score on 1.06.5, ~2000 vs ~2300 on 1.08, however things acctually work properly on 1.06.5...)

Ever tried running downhill with someone on your back? Sometimes it's better to go that little bit slower and avoid accidents ;)

Yes, my 1.08 experience was much like yours. I am back on 1.06.5.

These were my thoughts that I posted My Post

Can't say I have had any problems with it, in theory it should be almost identical to the performance pack as really that's what they updated mostly. Was it a clean install or just an over the top update? I sometimes find it takes a clean install or two before everything works. Also did you try just applying the R6 with PP over the top it works fine and would replace most of the 1.08 performance files.

It does seem odd that such a differential exists, I did a fresh 1.08 build with R6+PP, and after the 'white lines' tried again then with a fresh bake without the PP and could not get a satisfactory experience. The 'white lines' and some laggy screen updates mainly, so I havereverted until there is a new standard build released as I am using the unit as a replacement for about 75% of web activities and training.

Big differences exist between lots of people, I got white lines with 1.06 and none with 1.08 just seems to be pretty random as far as I can see as you can have people on identical set ups getting different problems and solutions for some things.

I did a clean install of 1.08, along with a clean install of 1.08 with PP (on the off chance it made a difference). I also re-downloaded all the apps from the Market, rather than restoring from a backup.

Unfortunately, it was still rubbish, so I went back to 1.06.5
