Guest mjjgirlie Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 Hi I am completely new to owning an android phone (had the Orange SF for a week.) Everything seems to be fine with my phone and im enjoying it but I'm getting very frustrated with one particular problem. At home, at my Parents, at friends I can connect to their wifi and surf with no problems at all. At work in our office we have a cisco wireless router. I can connect to it (wep security) no problem at all and signal strength is excellent. I obtain an ip and my SF says connected BUT I cannot get internet access. What makes this even more annoying is that the guys in my office can connect to it with no worries at all and surf the day away (they have, iphone, ipod touch and galaxy s). Anyone else had this problem and got any suggestions? I notice that everytime I connect to it i get the same ip. Is there any way to force my SF to pick up a different ip? I can ping my phone from my office pc. Help!
Guest Phoenix Silver Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 yes in the wifi page in menu / advanced settings you can set an ip manually if you can ping you probably have a problem with dns you can set the dns too in the same page
Guest Fi5h Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 Does your work use a proxy server by any chance?

Would it work if I put the dns ip in manually but kept the ip address assigned to my phone by dhcp?

Tried to reconnect but now my phone is just stuck on "obtaining ip address."
Guest Fi5h Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 I put a static ip in. Tried to reconnect but now my phone is just stuck on "obtaining ip address." depending on how the proxy at work is set up you may have to input some details manually, like the proxy address - unfortunately there is no proxy settings page on the phone to do this ;) I seem to remember talk of a proxy add-on or app - maybe someone else will have a better idea.
