Hi, I'm new to the MoDaCo forums and android itself but I thought I'd post how useful they have been.

I received a san francisico/zte blade that someone had unlocked and then tried installing a custom rom onto but had somehow made a mistake and the phone was no longer booting.

It would get as far as the green android logo and hang, and after doing research here found out about the recovery option, trying it got a square with the letters 'FTM' instead of the android logo and no further. After some more searching I found a few more posts from people with the same problem here and on other sites but each thread trailed off with out mention of a fix, or just the owner getting a replacement from orange which wasn't an option for me without paying for it.

After some digging and thinking, thanks to some seperate guides on the modaco forums i got it up and running perfectly, so thought I'd share how I managed to do it just on the off chance it might help someone else.

I was starting from scratch with just the phone and usb cable and windows 7, so I downloaded the drivers first using the ones in this thread and installed them manually when plugging in the phone by going to the windows device manager, updating the drivers for the device and telling it which folder they were in rather than using auto update. I had read in other threads that drivers can be an issue so had I already installed any then the first step would be uninstall them then install the 'new' ones.

next was to use step 5 of this guide and download fastboot and clockworkmod recovery as it seemed the only option to get any kind of recovery program onto the handset was manually doing it without access to the phones app manager. following the each part of step 5 got clockwork onto the phone.

the next part was to use step 3 of the same guide to install a new rom with clockwork manually. I used the rom suggested in the guide, the MoDaCo Custom Froyo ROM (r7). by following each part carefully once i'd rebooted from clockwork, I had a working phone! from here on using the dialler codes here i could find out which model phone i had and choose which stock rom or any other custom rom i wanted to install from the list here.

I hope this might help someone else and save time finding the relevant parts in each guide.
