Guest MaxiP Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 Hi all - I've been looking for an all encompassing reader / aggregator for a while. I have tried many (if not all) but none of them really seem to suit tablet dimensions. My ideal reader would be a scrollable 4x4 or 4x6 widget on my main screen showing headlines from ?? sources (BBC news, theregister, engadget, etc). When you click on a headline, it opens up within the reader, not linking to the host site. The best I can describe is a layout similar to Pulse, but with less 'faff' around it, with the app rendering the page internally rather than in a web browser. I'm not bothered if the app can only display text and it would be nice to cache to SD for reading later. I haven't tried FeedR as there is no trial and from the screen shots, it looks more suited to a phone handset than a tablet. Suggestions please as to a good reader for a tablet
Guest wipeout140 Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 I use Newsrob Pro (but does have a free version) and it works really well on the vega, only thing it does lack is widgets (as currently it only has unread count widget) but for me thats ok But it is an excellent rss reader synced to my Google reader account
Guest MaxiP Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 (edited) Tried NewsRob and syncs very well for Google reader feeds; not so well on other feeds and missing a widget. Nearest (ish) is "MoreGood News for Tablet" but it doesn't seem to want to work in landscape mode ;) but does display / render within it's own engine (which I wanted). Widget is a bit limited to say the least..... Edited February 2, 2011 by MaxiP
Guest newbe5 Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 I find Pulse fuggin' awesome, pulls in everything from everywhere and has different sized widgets ;)
Guest Graham Macleod Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 I find Pulse fuggin' awesome, pulls in everything from everywhere and has different sized widgets ;) I'm very happy with FeedR - I have it set up with two 4*2 widgets on the same page, both refreshing every 10 seconds. It's a pretty cool effect. Worth the money I would say.
Guest Logseman Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 GReader Pro has done the work for me. It was the first app I bought for my Galaxy S and it works just as fancy on the Vega. It has widgets of 2 sizes: a small notifying one and a bigger one with news, which you can resize with LauncherPro or ADW.
