Hi

Apologies for posting this here but it seems to be this sub forum I'm having problems with.

I'm having great problems loading pages from this sub forum using IE8 on a PC. About 50% of the time pages hang with the background and the 'man at the top' and little else, the status bar just says 'Waiting for..'.The front News page normally loads as do some of the other forums (less busy?) but this forum is almost impossible to navigate. It is no doubt coincidence but the problem seems to have developed not long after I went 'Ad free'.

I've deleted all temp internet files and Modaco cookies and rebooted with no change. (It took me about 10 attempts to Login after deleting the cookies!) I've checked my firewall log for anything blocked from Modaco but there is nothing. I've tried with AV & Firewall disabled and again no joy. I'm not having trouble with any other sites, my internet connection tests out at around 6300kbps and pings are fine. Rebooting the router hasn't made any difference. I give in!

Is anyone else having problems like this.

Cheers - Y

Me too but I'm also having trouble with a couple of other forums so I thought it was my net provider. Using Sky.

I am having similar issue as well.

The taskbar on my Firefox....Waiting for modaco.com.nyud.net or something else....

And it is not just this forum, I am having issues with other forums as well....

Is this in any way related to IPV4 exhaustion?

I had problems this morning too, in Hungary. I guess one of the mostly used servers got damaged or smthing like that.

Hi folks.

Thanks for your replies, at least I know that I'm not on my own.

I'm on O2 broadband so it might be the Linx issues affecting me here although I don't seem to be having trouble with other sites. If I hop around some of the quieter forums on this site it works fine but when I come here or try something like the HTC Desire forum which is also quite busy I get the same stalled page loads.

This is the 3rd time I've tried to post this reply, hopefully, it'll be third time lucky!

Cheers - Y

If you think it's internet problems you could try flushing your DNS

Open a command prompt and type:

ipconfig /flushdns

No side effects whatsoever. Webpages may take a few milliseconds longer to load for the first time after flushing

Windows, if you use linux or mac you already know the command ;)

As you spend more than half your time fighting with terminal

Thanks for that. Funnily enough, things seem to have improved over the past hour or so. It's been better than it has for a few days now.

Please can we get a moderator to look at this? I still get this issue - but only sometimes.

But I think I have solved it.

If I look at the details of the missing graphics it says, for example, that the source is:

http://www.modaco.com.nyud.net/style_image...e-textcolor.gif

This is the problem, as this doesnt seem to exist.

If I type the source as

http://www.modaco.com/style_images/blue/fo...e-textcolor.gif

Then all is well.

This may well be down to the proxy at work :-( but is there anyway to change this on modaco?

yea linx isn't great although they do have dual lan's one as a back up but most providers only use the free 100mb fort you get when the main lan they might buy a 10 giagbit main port meaning some serious speed isues. and then in a couple of months the internet really will start falling to bits if isp's don't get there act together with ipv6 sharpish

Still can't load any threads using the computer, working fine on opera mobile right now however.

IPv4 died 1-2 days ago, might be cause of that ;)

Nice little mention there. Went into my connection settings, unticked IPV4, applied the settings. Tried to load the page on IPV6, no connection what so ever. Retick the IPV4 box, apply the setttings, now all the threads are loading up instantly! ;)

No It didn't

If IPv4 had died you wouldn't be able to reach the vast majority of the internet.

The last blocks were handed out to the Regional Registries, The regional registries still have spare IPv4 addresses at the moment and ISP's.etc also will have IP's that have been allocated to them but not yet assigned to users.

Just because we're running Low on IPv4's it doesn't mean the internet is going to stop working overnight, It does mean that some providers may have trouble getting extra IPv4 addresses when they want to expand.

The lack of IPv6 support from ISP's may become a problem when sites go IPv6 only but at the moment that hasn't happened, even the sites that support IPv6 connectivity tend to also support IPv4 based connectivity.

Yes the world needs to upgrade to IPv6 and yes it needs to start hardening pretty quickly, but NO the internet isn't going to suddenly implode because it hasn't happened yet.
