Guest ZTE Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 (edited) Hi, Does anyone know if it's possible to change the GPS icon in the status bar? I'm using Frankish's Gingerbread theme with the FLB r7 Froyo ROM and the GPS icon is a small grey compass shape. It flashes when trying to get a fix, then stops flashing when it has it. It would be better if it changed colour when it got a fix. Is that possible? At the moment it's quite difficult to see clearly. Alternatively, does anybody know a good app that shows a GPS lock symbol in the status bar? I've searched the market without much success. Thanks for any help. ;) Edited February 6, 2011 by ZTE
Guest ZTE Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 OK, if anybody is interested, I've had some success with this. I followed Frankish's excellent guide here, part 1b. I replaced 2 images, stat_sys_gps_acquiring.png and stat_sys_gps_on.png, in Frankish's TrueGB circle battery theme with the same images from another theme which I prefered. Re-applied the theme and bingo! From this: and this (dull/boring/difficult to see in the car) To this: and this (bright and easy to see) I'm happy! :D You can do this with any image in any theme you fancy. It's just a matter of finding the right image to change. Have fun... :P
Guest oldfella Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 interested in doing this - just checked the framework-res and there is a very similar icon in the mdpi directory - maybe they are in the wrong place ?
Guest ZTE Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 (edited) The images I changed were in the drawable-hdpi-v4 folder. You're right, there are similar but smaller images in the mdpi folder. I'm guessing these are for 'medium-dots-per-inch' and the others for high dpi. I could be completely wrong though. :P Edited February 8, 2011 by ZTE
Guest limawhiskey Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 (edited) Nice. I followed your lead but I actually like the shape of the theme's GPS icon, I just changed the colour: It was a royal PITA though, I had to load and export the png in Inkscape as photoshop couldn't cope with the colour indexed png for some reason. I downloaded the "Gingerbread Circle Mod" zip file for R12 and open it with winrar (twice, one the zip, two the .apk) and replaced the two gps icons with the above that you provided. Flashed and all are fine !!!
Guest remlap Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 This is a great little baby step modification for me, pulled the framework.res, opened up in 7zip swapped out the pngs and pushed back the framework.apk. Still learning :(
Guest jonmac73 Posted April 4, 2011 Report Posted April 4, 2011 Just to say, followed instructions here & worked a treat. Nice little mod - looks much better & clearer to see. Thanks
