htc desire corroded USB port

So a month ago I bought a new htc desire for a friend.

2 weeks ago it failed, It was stuck in the bootloader none of the buttons would work and just stayed there.

Took it back to the Telstra store where I bought it and they told me it had to be sent back to HTC to be checked.

Today I got the call back.

Apparently there was Corrosion/Rust on the USB port caused by water damage and that is what caused the fault.

The phone has not been near water, has not touched water, the closest thing to water is the humidity thanks to the heat and rain.

I am guessing the humidity is possible but a space of less then 2 weeks for a level of corrosion and rust to make the phone not function seems abit BS to me.

Does anyone have any suggestions on repair or what I could do as this seems like a total screwjob to me.

So just an update.

Took the phone to a 3rd party repair place.

They are going to have a look at it and check for the water damage and corrosion.

They will also replace the USB port.

Hopefully that's the only problem.

If they do not find water damage I am soooo not going to be happy with HTC
