Guest trevor432990 Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 I realise there have been several topics discussing the default volume levels being set too low and speculating how these might be changed. Whilst trying to resolve my Google Navigate voice change problem (see topic below) I found out that when using Navigate it uses an entirely separate volume control which belts the voice out at higher than default volume levels. On further investigation I stumbled upon this article reporting an Android_Secret_Code String which had a code to change volume levels so I thought the techy guys amongst us would be interested in. The article is a year old now and so the code may have changed or been removed but it does show there might be some way of adjusting the different volume levels after all ;)

The article is a year old now and so the code may have changed or been removed but it does show there might be some way of adjusting the different volume levels after all ;) None of these 'secret codes' will work on the Vega because we have a gimped dialer. Even the code for the Spare Parts style testing hidden menu will not work through the dialer: *#*#4636#*#* However, I have figured out another way to access this menu, just create a shortcut on your home screen to an Activity, scroll down to Settings and select Testing. There are a few other hidden features and menus you can 'unlock' in this way (such as the missing Text-to-speech menu) but I have not found any hidden volume or sound menus. Don't forget, most Vega ROMs still have the bug where setting the volume above 50% has no effect. The CM7 ROM does not have this problem though. Also, in another thread about volume I linked to an XDA thread to push some Audio Parameter files which improve sound quality and volume a bit but it only seemed to work for headphone sound, not the speakers. Guest trevor432990 Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 Hmmm thanks Sir Gash I shall have a look at those especially as I've been having a few issues today with TTS (Text to Speech) do you have the code for that one by any chance?

Find an empty spot on your home screen and long press, then: Shortcut > Activities > Settings > Text-to-speech settings
Guest trevor432990 Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 (edited) Find an empty spot on your home screen and long press, then: Shortcut > Activities > Settings > Text-to-speech settings That's nice and easy. Guest Bazabaza Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 Neither do I it just goes straight to settings but text-speech doesn't seem to be one of the options?
Guest wipeout140 Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 (edited) You will need alternative launcher like ADW launcher and his instructions will work perfectly as I just tried and installed the needed text to speech engine Edit - Its named Custom shortcut in ADW launcher Edited February 6, 2011 by wipeout140

Guest wipeout140 Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 which engine or app did you install? Once you have added the shortcut, click "Install voice data" and that redirects to the android market
Guest Clark80 Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 My volume is now 'fixed' after installing MCR7
Guest pdej Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 I must have misread the instructions above - I didn't need to install anything in the end as it's all there and working!
