Guest Blazza181 Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 (edited) Firstly, thanks for bothering to look at my post. I'm really grateful. I've, after a while, decided to buy the Orange San Francisco, after seeing multiple reviews. However, the news of how they've changed the screen type has made my search even harder. I know there are many topics similar to this, but they didn't exactly answer what I was looking for. I would personally prefer to get an OLED screen, rather than a TFT. The people at my local Orange store are not particularly enthusiastic, to be kind, and so I'd doubt they'd let me boot up a phone to check whether it's got a TFT or OLED screen. The fact that they've been burgled recently means they're probably less trusting. I was wondering if there is a way to tell if the phone inside has an OLED or TFT screen, just by the box, product code, etc. - i.e. not opening the packaging / booting up the phone. Once again, thanks for looking at this post. Blazza Edited February 5, 2011 by Blazza181
Guest cevcko Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 chances that you will find OLED in shop are close to ZERO. you may find them on Ebay, maybe even unused. TFT and OLED are both GOOD screens and you wont find the difference between them.
Guest IronDoc Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 you wont find the difference between them. That's not true at all. The main difference imo is TFTs are sharper but OLEDs have much more contrast. There've been threads about their relative merit elsewhere. @Blazza: If you do a search, there was a post somewhere saying that the corners are a different shape, though I found it really hard to tell. I don't think they could have a problem with you just looking at the phone before you bought it. Also, it doesn't hurt to ask them to boot it up.
