Need some advice/help from the Vega experts

Hi All,

I’ve recently got myself an Advent Vega (2nd hand) from eBay. It has Android 2.2 and has been rooted with r6 (I think) custom ROM. Having spent two days on it, I’m not sure if it’s really working out as I expected. I read and watched numerous reviews on this and the general consensus was a very good machine as an iPad alternative. I have to mention that I have an Apple iPad and although I not biased towards it when comparing the two devices, I do have to say that the Vega isn’t quite there yet. I’m hoping that Android 3.0 can be installed on the Vega and make it more tablet friendly and therefore giving a more iPad comparable experience.

Anyway, this is not a iPad vs Vega post so on with my immediate problems.

1. Sticky keypresses – this is really annoying me. Key presses just freeze randomly making typing frustrating. Is this a hardware problem or software? Any fixes to this?

2. Volume increase bug – it appears that once the volume is ~50% increasing it beyond this doesn’t have any effect. Anyone else with this problem? Any fix to this?

3. Battery life is appalling. I don’t mind the drain when the device is in use but, loosing ~20% in standby (24 hrs) is not really on. I’m not going to be a heavy user of the device so it will most likely be in standby for 1-2 days. At this rate I’ll be charging it more than using it. Any advice on battery conservation?

The above are my immediate issues that I need to resolve to stand any chance of using the device. As I’m not an expert with the Vega I’m not currently confident about installing the r7 ROM, which I don’t know if it will fix the above.

Thanks for reading and hopefully with your help I can get things moving.

1. Search in this forum for screen Calibration should turn up something called ModuleAP which when run should help, I also run smart keyboard Pro and the very latyest Modaco ROM and Kernel and I no longer get the annoying sticky keys.

2. They all do that sir...

;-) There's a discussion on the XDA Forum about this, not sure how far it's got, I'm sure it will be resolved by some clever person soon.

3. Another Search on power saving will turn up a fix to remove the telephone device standby that drains large amounts of battery even though we have no 3G gubbins.

I'll have a look as I need to re-implement this myself.

EDIT:

Here it is...

Battery Drain Tweak Be warned it leaves you with a signal indicator bar showing you have no signal.
