GPS only working with data enabled

Hi, I've been doing some research on this, but never found an answer. When I try to use GPS, it only works when I'm on a mobile data network. It doesn't work when I'm on wi-fi. I turn it on and not even the notification bar icon appears when I go to Maps and lock on my position. GPS tester programs just wait for the coordinates for an indefinite amount of time. What can be the reason for this? I'm using Tom's CM6 0.40 port with Starkos' 710 MHz kernel.
