Guest Nitsson Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 (edited) I just got a OSF for my gf and unlocked / installed JF 2.2 as per the excellent guide here, but I find it's stuttering a bit in Google maps and the browser. I know this isn't a powerhouse of a phone and I got it as I wanted good value for money, but is it possible to make the experience a little smoother? Two questions to that end: 1. In the JF release notes it says something about overclocking the CPU. I'm not sure this is done by default or if it's a manual thing. Can someone shed some light on how it's done and what a safe level is? The default level is 600MHz so I was thinking of 750MHz which would be a nice 25% overclock. 2. There's a guide for GPU HW acceleration here but I'm wondering if this has any effect in maps or the browser, and possibly the UI in general? There will be little, if any, games played and even then nothing more taxing than Angry Birds. Any insight is much appreciated. Edited February 8, 2011 by Nitsson

Guest Rotmann Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 He means the stuttering in scrolling and so on. You can try to enable hw_ui but don't expect a stellar performance the CPU is the blade's Achilles' heel.

Guest Rotmann Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 perhaps a rom problem haven't noticed this in Modaco rom Sure it does, open a complex site like androidpolice.com (desktop version) and scroll. Or make the two finger swype thingy in google maps. Even my 1GHz Archos 70 tablet stutters sometimes.
Guest Phoenix Silver Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 humm opening androidpolice.com in skyfire suspens.......... zooming unzooming scrolling unzooming no it's smooth and fast no problem another example ?

You can try to enable hw_ui but don't expect a stellar performance the CPU is the blade's Achilles' heel. Exactly. Can I expect some improvement at all, and any complications? perhaps a rom problem haven't noticed this in Modaco rom Perhaps, but I've read that's a common problem with the OSF. I'm running JF 2.2 RLS9. Sure it does, open a complex site like androidpolice.com (desktop version) and scroll. Or make the two finger swype thingy in google maps. Even my 1GHz Archos 70 tablet stutters sometimes. Exactly, it does. My iPhone 3GS has no such problems however and that CPU is also running at 600MHz. Super-smooth no matter what. Perhaps it can be attributed to the more powerful GPU and Apple's optimisation. Edited February 8, 2011 by Nitsson
Guest Rotmann Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 (edited) Device specific optimisation. I have owned a palm pre 500 MHz and 256MB RAM and the performance was much better in 3d gaming (gangstar running perfect) and browsing. You can try Flb Froyo though to see if it is better Edited February 8, 2011 by Rotmann
Guest 90180360 Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 1. In the JF release notes it says something about overclocking the CPU. I'm not sure this is done by default or if it's a manual thing. Can someone shed some light on how it's done and what a safe level is? The default level is 600MHz so I was thinking of 750MHz which would be a nice 25% overclock. Most can at least overclock to 710MHz. It definitely helps with the browser and Angry Birds. 2. There's a guide for GPU HW acceleration here but I'm wondering if this has any effect in maps or the browser, and possibly the UI in general? There will be little, if any, games played and even then nothing more taxing than Angry Birds. With GPU HW acceleration enabled, 3D games run great (Speedx 3D, Turbofly 3D, NFS Shift, Reckless Racing, etc.). If it's disabled: welcome to framerate hell! Also, contrary to popular belief, GPU HW acceleration does not use any more battery!
