Guest Konstipated Kiwi Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 (edited) I have assigned images for my main contacts so they appear against their names in e.g. SMS messages. I cannot assign an image for my own messages (I just get the default Android grey square). I vaguely recall reading how to do this a few weeks back when I was researching the San Francisco (something to do with putting the SIM in another phone) but I cannot for the life of me find it again. I have searched this forum and used Google to no avail. I am running Sebastian's ROM (I think; I got it here) and using the GifffGaff network, if that is relevant. Thank you in advance for any help. Guest Konstipated Kiwi Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 Ah! I knew I would find it after posting the question. I read it on this very site, here near the bottom under Phone Number. It is an issue specific to GiffGaff.

It is an issue specific to GiffGaff. no need to use a different phone like that says on that page your phone need to know your number in settings-about phone-status (if it says unknown get the "My Phone Number" by Lytsing app from the market to add your number) then add your self to your phone book and give your self a pic and that pic will then show up here is a link for the app http://www.appbrain.com/app/my-phone-numbe...g.myphonenumber

I did find it myself when the link didn't work. Unfortunately, I have not yet been able to install the app. I navigated to the Market on my phone yesterday and successfully downloaded it but it wouldn't install (helpfully, the error message just reported 'unknown error'). I am unable to connect to the Market this morning, for some reason. I have tried loggin in to the Market at my PC 20mins ago, but am still waiting for the app to be delivered to my phone. :-( I didn't even have any luck using another phone to save a contact to my SIM. I created the entry on my Sony Ericsson K510i last night but it didn't appear when I put the SIM back in my San Francisco. I guess the K510i doesn't save to SIM. Grrr. I do not yet have AppBrain isntalled, so may have to try that route next. Will post again if I have any success. Edited February 9, 2011 by Konstipated Kiwi

I found out how to save to SIM on the K510i but, whether I call the contact Me, or my full name, I still cannot allocate a picture to my entries in message exchanges. I am now able to get onto the Market via the phone again, but it is still reporting 'Installation was unsuccessful' after downloading the app. Other applications have installed ok, so I don't know what I am doing wrong. Any suggestions?

Any suggestions? i just noticed the rom you are using is de-oranged so im thinking it is 2.1 that app only works on 2.2+ if you have set the number to the sim make sure it shows in the settings menu->settings->about phone->status if the number shows here make sure you have the same number saved to your contact (name don't matter it only looks for number)
Guest digisol Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 Just tried this, as I too have the grey square problem. The app downloaded, but got the 'installation unsuccessful' message. Running 2.2
Guest rutteger Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 Had this issue with an O2 SIM (assume related to giffgaff). Number not on SIM as reported in settings > about. To solve this put SIM in another phone and set 'my number' onto SIM card, used a cheap 3 sykpephone. Put SIM back in Blade then added myself as a contact with a pic...et voila.
Guest Drem Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 have just used the app linked to (https://market.android.com/details?id=org.lytsing.myphonenumber) and it worked fine for me, note that it *only* works on 3-party ROMs that use android testkey signatures. FLB r8a is def. good with this.

Once you set the number you can remove the app (although it is really small at 35K) and the number will stick (haven't tried a reboot so don't know).

Guest Konstipated Kiwi Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 the app saves the number to the sim i have tested this by putting my sim in a friends phone and his phone could see my number Just to update that I eventually sorted this out by using an old phone I have not got rid of yet (Vodafone VF725, I think) to set 'My Number'. It seems that the Market App does not work on certain ROMs (I am using r0.3_update_de-softened_blade_signed one). It then took a bit of farting about between the contacts in my phone and the ones in my online Gmail account. I could not provide a step-by-step; it just started working and I am not sure exactly what I did.
