8 hours of standby just cost me 20% battery.....

So I'm running streakdroid 170, and I left my phone unplugged last night and made note of the battery before I went to sleep. Woke up 8 hours later and the battery had dropped 20% in that 8 hours. I've been getting nowhere close to the 9 hours of talk time advertised, but this is really bad. At this rate I get less than 2 days of STANDBY time.....

I'm familiar with Spare Parts and Battery Use in Settings and have been keeping an eye on my apps but nothing seems to be the culprit. Most of my battery goes to Cellular Standby.

Is this similar to anyone else's experience? I'm still well under warranty, I could send this back to them if necessary.

May be out of context but i plug my phone into charger everynight i go to sleep.

I am pretty heavy user and usually less than 10-15% battery when i go to bed.

So what i am saying is , if u r able to plug it in for a few hrs of charging , it should be ok.

On the other note, i have noted that with 1.7 or rather 322 version( on which 1.7 is based ) the cell standby is taking more battery than usual...

Im on 170 and I dropped 2% last night with wifi set to off when screen is off, and volume on silent thats all, data was still connected, battery eta showed 13hours left when I went to bed and 16 hours when I got up, it ran for 15h48 mins before I charged it.

usually it is a 3rd party app that causes battery drain.

Conversely yesterday I barely got 6 hours out of it, but I made several calls, had gprs gps and bluetooth on all time (and used), plus the screen was on quite a bit map reading..

its definitely some app you installed..it'll eat away battery when the streaks on or off...

i keep having this prob...be careful of what u install....

when everythings fine...it shud easily give u 20-24 hrs on moderate use...of course on heavy use it barely lasted 10....thts not the streaks fault though..

Missed that setting

wifi settings > menu advanced > Wifi Sleep Policy

Well wifi is set to off when screen off as always and as I said I've closely watched Spare Parts and Battery Use and no third party app is doing anything to register in either app so it seems all normal.

I'm gonna try a factory reset before I go to sleep. That'll prove things one way or the other. I just wanted to see if others experience this. Thanks for the input guys I hopefully won't be returning this....

this is the bugger, spare parts only takes reading from the battery logs I think. Its worth going through logcat sometimes to see if there's anything spamming the logs, repeated messages (ignore the auo_touch, thats not important, just annoying) show signs that something is power hungry.

for example k9 (and the stock email client) have a tendency to try to ping the server, even when set on off=peak (ie no data check). If there's no connection they can get stuck and spam the logs which shows they are eating cpu cycles.

I noticed that adwex was using a lot of time, as was beautiful widgets by looking in the logs, yet it wasn't showing in spare parts, uninstalled and went to launcherpro and battery time increased (fwiw I'm back on adwex now to test something else).

I also noticed that battery was dropping quickly after installing the stock 322 rom, turns out slide-it was causing loads of partial wakes, even though it wasn't being used.

As mentioned in my previous post, I too noticed the same thing...

I installed 1.7 over it and i dont know if that could be the reason why i am seeing higher battery drain.. i am going to do a factory reset and see ...

( i am not complaining :P )

Can't trust Spare Parts eh?

Know of any good tools for navigating logcat dumps besides grep :P

I'm a little fuzzy in the area of text parsing, but maybe I'll put something together that can parse logcat dumps and keep track of how many entries each app enters. Or just read and grep the damn thing lol

Just did a factory reset, set wifi sleep policy and switched off mobile data since I had juice defender switch it off after a few minutes last night. No bluetooth or anything else left on, we shall see....

EDIT:

I did a factory reset from the 1st menu and all my apps are starting to reinstall themselves in the background.....didn't notice until Folder Organizer (which I never installed) came out of nowthere telling me new apps had been installed asking me how I wanted to label them.....I gotta be up in the morning but seriously....what the hell? I've tried factory resets from streakmod on 170 and its never booted so I dunno what else to try

EDIT again:

its the new Google backup probably. Going to sleep lol.

I found that Titanium Backup ragged the s*** out of my battery's life, I usually charge at night but with TB installed, it needed charging every few hours.

Soon deleted it after scrubbing off the Dell provided shite

I find also that an hours charge gets it to 100% from whatever level it happens to be at from mains or laptop.

Also, a 'dead' (<1%) unit will only charge from my laptops usb, yet wont charge off mains...weird!!

Factory reset and then standby for 8 hours dropped the battery 1%. Definitely one of my apps eating it up. It's something not showing up on Spare Parts or Battery Usage, so I'm gonna keep digging.

I entered

# logcat > /sdcard/logcatdump

into ConnectBot and it only ran for 45 minutes or so before saying it had been killed. I don't use any task killers. Haven't figured out why that was happening, might just leave it plugged into adb and dump it directly to my laptop's hdd but it requires having no phone for most of the day.

I have and use Titanium Backup very regularly. I'll try uninstalling and see if it helps.

may have just been standard android low memory killer stopping logcat

That's what I'm afraid of. I have over 170mb of free memory right now and I'm starting it again, I'm gonna try to keep it in the foreground and watch it and just keep restarting it if it goes out I guess. I should be able to get a good 'nuf dump that way.

LATER

Tried leaving it in foreground but it still told me "host has disconnected" after a few minutes. It doesn't seem to be getting "killed", but for some reason it keeps stopping.
