Guest wumbasa Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 Hey everyone Just tested some 1080p,720p (mkv and mp4) trailer with my rockplayerbase. Unfortunately none of them are running smoothly. I just get 8-15 fps. Does anyone know why it is so slow? I thought the tablet could play 720p and up to 1080p smoothly.

Ok firstly the only way the Vega will be able to play 1080p is using hardware acceleration, that is using the nvidia binaries that come with the system. Rockplayer (and all of the 3rd party video player apps) does not uses the default video core (hence it can parse mkv containers) so its only running on the cpu. Secondly the vega is only 600px high so unless you're using HDMI you're not going to see 1080p, and again, you only get 1080p if you're using the default video core otherwise you just get a mirror of the screen at 1024x600 To play 1080p you need the content to be in an m4v or mp4 container using h.264 baseline profile for video and aac or mp3 for audio (not AC3 or DTS) and finally be using the default video player
Guest obb Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 Secondly the vega is only 600px high so unless you're using HDMI you're not going to see 1080p Following that logic you wont see 720p either technically ... I know what your saying though, there isnt any point in displaying 1080p on a 10inch tablet regardless

Its still not lag free. from the site: Serenity – 720p “On HD DVD” Trailer Download Link: serenity_hd_dvd-trailer.zip (80 MB) Video Type: 1280×720 (720p), 23.967 FPS, CE-High profile (PS3 and Xbox 360 compatible) Audio Type: AAC LC Stereo This is constrained high profile, as I said you're unlikely to be able to get anything other than baseline profile to play smoothly (for example The Bourne Ultimatum trailer plays nicely) That said the Tegra2 is supposed to be able to handle high profile on 720p and main profile for 1080p but that is just the pure hardware, the android libs do not appear to be up to that yet.
