SPV Free insurance

heres a bit of a wierd one for those of us, like me, that have taken out orange care at an extra £5 /month.

It is taken from another forum

"I hada good one, I used my headset for the first time and then noticed that it was stuck on the headset profile. When I went to the quicklist the option to slect another profile was greyed out on the menu. I plugged in the headset and removed it numerous times in case of dodgy contact, re-booted the phone to no avail. The phone was only 32 days old, Orange first told me they couldn't replace it as I hadn't taken out insurance with them. However HTC's 1 year manufacturers warranty applied so they sent me a mailbag to post it to them for repair. Orange then telephoned me and told me that in fact all UK Orange customers got one years free insurance when buying an SPV so they would have replaced it after all! Too late for me but worth noting if it happens to you. I haven't received my phone back yet. Orange where very slow, but understanding in the end. Just wish they had told me about the insurance sooner, they said something about it was on page 2 of my notes and the previous operator hadn't checked properly. "

I heard this before as well, but I very much doubt it as it loses Orange a possible £250,000 a month (50,000 customers, insurance premiums for £5/month), and takes the cream off treating business customers with the free insurance perk...

This is not true. Small businesses get it free - see previous threads, upgrades on any tariff above talk 60 where care was provided free on the previous 12 months also get it free. Other than that, no free care. Sorry. At least you haven't lost anything choco - unless you upgraded in which case you may have :)

I seem to remember reading on the orange website somewhere, that if you damage your phone, or do something to it that isnt covered by the usual warranty but would be by orange care, you have to pay a one off fee of around £50 or something, and they send u a new phone. Or they can apply orange care retrospectivly, and u just pay the usual premium. Ahhh here we go, just found it again.....

if you lose your phone or it breaks and you don't have insurance

Call 07973 100 150 to notify Orange. You will be presented with the two options below:

1. Emergency Care - costs just £30 inc VAT plus a subscription to Orange Care for a minimum of 12 months. You'll receive a replacement phone and be covered for loss, theft and damage to your phone. If you already have Orange Care, you're unable to get Emergency Care. See terms.

2. Emergency Replacement - For just £50 inc VAT, you'll receive a replacement phone only. Insurance is not included in this charge.

here's the url if any of u are interested in looking into it further....

Alas, I'm no longer in a position to check for you. BUT, I heard about this forum from another level-2 156 support tech, who reads it regularly. I'm sure he's one of several... although in general internet access (away from work) among Orange techies (acording to my straw poll) runs at about a fifth of the national average (which is 45%) so they may not be in a position to reply.

No longer do Orange Private/regular customer on any Tariff get care for free. As stated previously u used to get it free if u where on talk 60 or above but since Orange revised all there tariffs and changed them all to "Your Plan" which was in Oct-Sep (not 100% sure on date but round about them) u no longer got it free. So unfortunatly for any private customer purchasing a new handset and wishing for insurance will have to pay.

Be careful with the "Emergency Care" thing - the one-off payment that back-dates your cover to the day before you needed it. It's easy to mis-interpret - I had a call from a guy with a dead-and-uninsured Nokia 9210, suggested the £50 emergency care, and then stopped and checked (as it wasn't really "my department") I was advised that the 9210 was a "smartphone", not a "phone" and that therefore the one-off premium was substantially higher. I now have no way to tell if the same ruling applies to the SPV... Maybe Morpheus, who has access to the Scholar Knowledgebase can check it for you? If the SPV falls into the same category, the "backdate" premium could rise to £150 after the warranty runs out. One good thing; I understand that, small print aside, Orange are usually pretty liberal with the rules the FIRST time you make a claim, sometimes covering things explicitly excluded, as a "goodwill gesture". Thereafter they tend to look at the case increasingly carefully.
